I am not a street racer but i do push my car pretty hard. I will at least go through the rpms once a day. Today i went trough 1-2 gear max rpms. 2 weeks ago i redlines the car through 1-2 about 10 times.

Im on Mc 5-20 w. supertech oil filter and an oz of autp-rx
I just put this oil in there about 1.5-2 months ago. Its a new car and it had been over filled by Jiffy lube and had some 9 month oil oil in there.

Im thinking about going 2k miles with this oil and switch it again before winter hits so what ever [censored] was in there from the jiffy lube would be flushed out for good.
anyone know the vis of Mc 5-20?

Ps. all city driving.
To school and back and just cruzing around the blocks.
about 8-10 miles a day.

Is the car stock or modified? Your driving as far as rpms is not hard service on the oil or engine at all. The city driving may put your engine into the severe oil change schedule.

My dad had a 1987 Hyundai Excel, and because the engine was too weak for the weight of that car, dad had to floor the accelerator at nearly every intersection, and because of the 3 speed automatic, the engine was turning 4000 RPM or more on the highway. Fuel dilution was probably an issue, because that engine had a carb, and because the throttle was usually wide open, the O2 sensor was often inactive.

He filled it with Castrol GTX and changed it every 3000 miles. He never used any oil additives or engine flushes. The PCV was replaced whenever it would not click while being shaken. Occasionally he'd put techron additive in the gasoline. When he got rid of it in 1992, he had 120,000 miles on it and the engine was all right. He never failed a smog test, either.

Off the shelf oil changed at regular intervals should be fine.

Street racing = bad and illegal, please don't do it, I'm tired of not letting my daughter play in our front yard because we have major speed,red-light, and mostly racing accidents about 3x a week here on our corner.

Now that you have been properly chastised, who cares what your OCI is? Follow your owner's manual for Sever Service, or follow your local and state road laws.

:) Smiley because I'm serious, but playful in the end....I "race", as a National SCCA Champion, legally, on tracks around the country.

With a good oil, you can go 5000 easy.

I run my car very hard, extra on the weekends. I stick to a 4-5 thousand mile OCI.

Yup. Just drain the oil and leave it out. Then go street racing.

The major issue that I see is if youre driving 8-10 miles a day, even if it is all at once, your oil is not up to temperature. Water temp is not an indicator of oil temperature, which decides the degree of protection as compared to optimal.

So you can be pretty sure that regardless of the oil chosen and the OCI, your protection is FAR from optimal and satisfactory.

Not only is it irresponsible and unnecessary to drive in such a way, but youre also destroying your vehicle faster. How about giving up the street racing or street racer-like behaviors, as after all, youre not driving a sports or sporty car anyway...

If youre NOT a street racer, why put OCI for street racers in your thread title?

The best oil for you, would be a 70w80 gear oil mixed with some peanut butter (not the chunky stuff).

Pour it and floor it!

my mt my-have we never had a little red light, see who can take off quicker from the light race up to 50 mph or so? Sounds like this is what the OP is referring to. loosen up

No worries man. As long as youve got the willpower to stop at 50 mph.

To the original poster, I would just run a good quality dino oil for 5K if your winters arent too cold. GTX is good, even under hard use. I know a few RSX guys that track regularily on GTX and show really low wear...Just kidding about the peanut butter and gear oil.

not anywhere around here. $20 to race, plus the gas to drive 30 minutes. I'm just as guilty of the next person for using exhibition of speed on the street, but I will try to use common sense and keep it away from people...

I'm awaiting sending out my black bottle for a UOA on my car, but I generally do a 3-4K oil change. Although my car is 4000lbs, and has 172K on it. I beat the living F()ck out of the car. I'll go WOT various times a day. I do however drive at least 30 minutes every outing..
