I really don’t understand why folks wait inline to save 10 cents for a gallon of gas. Most Costco gas lines I have seen have huge lines. I guess folks are very price sensitive?

You don’t have to wait that long if you go to the station early in the day or just before it closes. And not all stations are super busy. I usually get gas in the late afternoon on Saturdays and I usually can pull right up to a pump with no wait. This location is a busy one but it has a lot of pumps.

I don't understand why Top Tier fuel is so hard to find in Canada except Costco unlike before.

I don't have the patience to do that but I would be willing to pay 10 censt a gallon for top tier if its not like Chicogo O'Hare airport traffic wise.

This is the Costco gas station close to where I used to live. It could be quiet for the first hour and last hour of their operating hours, but this is the usual scene..

Me too and I don't think Valvoline did either. They claimed to have discovered it by accident.

The 4.6L in my grand marquis is at 145000 and I never have to add oil in a 5000-7500 mile oil change. I'm running 0w-20 in it .

The 4.6L in our 2005 Explorer with ~209,000 mi has been fed 5W-20 oil until recently, switched to 5W-30 that the other vehicles use. It's never used any oil between the 5,000 mi OCI's.

The two Costco's that I visit are rarely crowded. The one closer to my house can sometimes fill up all the right side pumps and still have the left side mostly empty.

This is just my opinion but I think Valvoline uses great add packs(above typical api oils and dexos cookie cutter oils) but mediocre base oils. Thus no extended drain intervals and high volatility, but shows low wear numbers.

I think that sounds about right from my experience with them. Good results apparently per UOA, but careful if considering an extended service interval. There are likely better choices wrt that.

I don’t find Top Tier fuel hard to find at all in Ontario. It’s sold at Costco, Shell, Esso, Petro Canada and so it’s actually easier to find Top Tier stations than non Top Tier

No kidding, agreed.....
People can be quite foolish> I will idle for an hour in line and burn a gallon of fuel in an overcrowded parking lot, waste an hour of my day while being frustrated by the other fools around me (for doing foolish things)to save A tenth OF A DOLLAR per gallon!!!

Always a good ROI to waste $100 bucks to save a total of $3.00 on the whole tank of fuel.... That's $3.00 I can add to the beer fund, Oh wait a miscalculated... I still owe it $97!

I don’t normally buy my gas at any of those stations but I just stopped and filled up at an Esso station to check and I didn’t see anything mentioning Top Tier gas on the pumps ( no sticker ).

I did a very quick check of the Esso website and I didn’t see it mentioned.

I will check with the other retailers you mentioned later.

Maybe Toronto really is the centre of the universe ( pilot joke about Pearson ).

Esso isn’t even mentioned in the Top Tier list.

Esso used to be Top Tier so I guess they decided to stop paying the fee. But they were Top Tier when they first introduced the “Synergy” fuel, so since they still use that it looks like it’s still technically a TT fuel.

That’s what ( because I used to only fill up at Esso at one time ) got me confused, the Top Tier sticker just disappeared one day.

Until recently, Top Tier availability had been reduced to Shell only; Kirkland has been recently re-added. From the majors, we only have 2 choices.

It's not 10 cents.
My local Shell sells regular pretty much at Costco prices. So I couldn't care less.
However, it sells Premium at $1.05 higher than its Regular. That's an extra $15 per fill when I don't overfill, when I have to fill up the bmw. At our Costco, Premium is $0.25 higher than Regular. So it's still a $10+ difference per fill.

Then, everyone is missing the main part. Look at what the crowd filling up at Costco gas stations looks like. 70% men, alone, in three-row SUVs.

That's either an ongoing gathering of the world's saddest bunch, or a boatload of husbands that would be shoveling coal rather than get inside the store every 30 minutes and see that their wives have progressed about an extra 10ft further away from the entrance.

I used to use it because I saw the top tier sticker at Esso and when I no longer saw it I figured I would buy my gas anywhere that was close and the cheapest ( and use fuel injector cleaner every 4000 KMS ).

Around me, typical prices for 93 octane are about $3.79. There is a Shell right in the middle of my neighborhood which is $3.59 as of last night. The Costco I visit charges $3.49 plus an additional 5% cashback from using their credit card for payment. It's definitely worth using Costco whenever I visit as there is no wait time either.
