I bet it’s the secret sauce that gives it the distinct smell. Kinda like tangy pine scent. I love the smell of it lolYes. It's not using the traditional high solvency group V to achieve the cleaning.

Oh, my engine was squeaky clean if you look at the valve train through the valve cover oil opening. The rings were not I guess.Interesting, thanks. I’m not dealing with fuel dilution thankfully. The ESP 0w30 still uses the ester formula unlike the 5w30. It’s kept my daughter’s Acura RDX squeaky clean. Just did her oil change on Saturday at 126k miles.

That’s exactly how my Outback is in this test.Oh, my engine was squeaky clean if you look at the valve train through the valve cover oil opening. The rings were not I guess.
I know that, and yes I meant 4102, but then again I always use a high TBN ACEA A3/B4 oil and only run it to 5000km so while the TBN is nuked it should still be enough for that run.Rislone will nuke your TBN. It's pretty acidic. There was a LSJr video on this.
Not that I make a habit of sniffing engine oil but I did notice it smells different than other oils.I bet it’s the secret sauce that gives it the distinct smell. Kinda like tangy pine scent. I love the smell of it lol![]()
Very distinct smell. To me it mildly smells like gear oil.Not that I make a habit of sniffing engine oil but I did notice it smells different than other oils.
It's not 10 cents.
My local Shell sells regular pretty much at Costco prices. So I couldn't care less.
However, it sells Premium at $1.05 higher than its Regular. That's an extra $15 per fill when I don't overfill, when I have to fill up the bmw. At our Costco, Premium is $0.25 higher than Regular. So it's still a $10+ difference per fill.
Then, everyone is missing the main part. Look at what the crowd filling up at Costco gas stations looks like. 70% men, alone, in three-row SUVs.
That's either an ongoing gathering of the world's saddest bunch, or a boatload of husbands that would be shoveling coal rather than get inside the store every 30 minutes and see that their wives have progressed about an extra 10ft further away from the entrance.
Agreed.Very distinct smell. To me it mildly smells like gear oil.
Last I checked neither Esso, nor Pet can are Top Tier certified. Esso dropped Top Tier at least 2 years ago. I used to to use Esso exclusively. Now I use Chevron/CostcoI don’t find Top Tier fuel hard to find at all in Ontario. It’s sold at Costco, Shell, Esso, Petro Canada and so it’s actually easier to find Top Tier stations than non Top Tier
Petro Canada keeps flip flopping on me. They had the Top Tier stickers on their pumps in the fallLast I checked neither Esso, nor Pet can are Top Tier certified. Esso dropped Top Tier at least 2 years ago. I used to to use Esso exclusively. Now I use Chevron/Costco
For me on the west coast, it is either Shell, Costco, CoOp, or Chevron. According to their website the rest around here are not.
So I wasn’t losing my mind after allPetro Canada keeps flip flopping on me. They had the Top Tier stickers on their pumps in the fallBut I still think that if a big station previously had been a TT station that they likely kept the fuel the same and just stopped paying the licensing fees.
That being said, I use Shell 93 in the Vette and Costco 87 in my Civic so I’m good there. I believe Costco and Shell up here have the best additive packages in their fuels.
Even if Shell decides to stop paying to use the TT branding I have full confidence in them as they have really promoted their V Power fuels ability to clean up engines really well. Shell is a very reputable company that I trust not to make such a statement if they didn’t have the test results to prove thatSo I wasn’t losing my mind after all
I did see a top tier sticker at a shell station yesterday.
There is a Shell station close to where I live ( unlike Costco ) and I will gas up there in the future.Even if Shell decides to stop paying to use the TT branding I have full confidence in them as they have really promoted their V Power fuels ability to clean up engines really well. I started using the Shell in my town to fill up instead of Mobil about a year or so ago. The 7/11 (branded Mobil) started going down hill despite being newer. Pumps always out, trash cans always full, etc. It seems like most of the Shell stations are a little nicer than the XOM station at least in my area. I didn’t notice it before. But now I cannot unsee it.There is a Shell station close to where I live ( unlike Costco ) and I will gas up there in the future.
Too bad they don’t sell nice ice cream cones though.

Thanks.Or the $1.50 Hot Dogs
Another thing I like about Costco is that their tire inflation stations use nitrogen. I wouldn’t pay extra for nitrogen fill when I buy tires but I will gladly use free nitrogen! The biggest benefit being that those stations are better at making sure there is no moisture content in them. When I buy new tires I do a slight deflate and refill a few times in order to get more pure nitrogen into my tires.
Same here. I will give my business to a gas station owner who runs a clean, professional operation.I started using the Shell in my town to fill up instead of Mobil about a year or so ago. It's rare to see a Mobil station in Canada, at least in Ontario.I use a Sunoco in town but lately I've been using XOM 93 - $3.82/gal.
