54 week old LG refrigerator failure

And just for the sake of discussion, the service was all done by an "authorized LG service provider"
Last time he was here he mentioned he does at least 3 of these refrigerator compressor jobs a week. He lost all credibility with me though after he tried to say LG wasnt the steaming pile of...... that it clearly is.

Lol

“Why are you doing 3 jobs a week if they’re not bad?”

/silence

“Just fix it and get out.”

This can be said about any product a consumer has a constant issue with.
Certainly you had a bad one then again maybe a bad repair man.
He said the repair guy said he does 3 of them a week, due to LG's crappy quality and/or defective design/quality. Also possible that it's his repair/install that's causing issues.:ROFLMAO:

:ROFLMAO: Yeah, he mentioned the repair guy lost all credibility with him, repair guy lost creditability with me once I read his statement about the 3 a week. Big talker type, we know them. (repair guys and contractors)

I believe he is competent but he is dealing with a unit of inferior quality and design but doesnt want to admit it to me since theyre an "authorized LG repair company"
Its just the vibe I get from the guy.
When I made the first call for service I asked if LG had changed the design of the compressor because I didnt want to keep throwing inferior parts back into this turd. They called me back 15 min later and just said that they install whatever LG send them. Kinda answered the question by not answering it.
I should have trusted my first instinct and went out and bought a new fridge and put this POFM to the scrap heap where it belongs. My mistake.

The tech replaced the compressor/condenser/ dryer combo again yesterday afternoon. The unit has been running all night and its at a chilly 71 degrees right now in both the fridge and freezer. Mind you my house is at 65 degrees so its actually warmer in the fridge than any other part of the house.

The bearings on my 18yr old LG TROMM series front load washer just started howling last week. Family of 6. This thing has been used and abused. I bought it at Lowes for around $600 back in 2005. You just never know with appliances.

FWIW, I'll be replacing it with a new LG front loader I bought at a local scratch n dent appliance store for $520. They're $698 at big box stores.

Our LG fridge failed after two years of ownership. The compressor went out. Thankfully, we have a 10 year extended warranty in case it happens again.

My old man was wise, when their LG went he just bought a new refrigerator. I probably would have done the same, but moved the broken LG to the garage so I could make them fix it to resell on Craigslist so I could get something out of it.

I lost all faith that your repair guy is competent. I think that is the greater problem here.
Ive owned a business with roughly a dozen commercial refrigeration units many much more complex, just watching my repair guy over a decade I knew the issue many times before he arrived that needed repair. I would be hard pressed to remember many occurrences in which he repaired something that he would have had to return a second time in close to two decades.

I think he is telling me the truth but trying to shade the fact that this thing is a piece of junk (he did comment early on that sees at least 3 of these a week) and theres bigger issues here. I believe it was in his best interest to come up with a fix since he has had hands on this thing 4 times now (plus the original diag) He would be motivated to fix it simply for the sake of financial reasons. On the 4th time out he tore out the lower freezer and exposed the mechanicals in the back for leak testing. It was a bit of work and he did it at the direction of LG's tech people. The second replacement of the compressor and parts was done at the urging of LG after that work. I doubt I will ever know for sure. I think I know how the Yugo mechanics felt back in the 80's.

too bad there isnt a lemon law for your refrigerator

anything purchased at costco.
Which is not the manufacturer warranty... and would include the LG refrigerator and all other brands costco sells.

Original comment was made in response to a poster stating buy a brand with a better warranty. Costco's warranty only is a differentiater on where to buy it but the base manufacturer warranty is still the same.

Please try research before posting.
Many items purchased at costco have doubled or more the manufacturers warranty
Greenworks 80volt were 8 years for example.

A little over a year ago, I was at my brother’s house and his wife was showing off their new refrigerator. It was purchased from a box store, cost $3K, French door model (side-by-side doors with freezer on the bottom) and had all the bells and whistles. Fast-forward to last week and my wife was visiting their house. My wife commented about the brand new refrigerator that WASN’T the same one that was purchased a year ago. My SIL clenched her jaw and her temple bulged (what my wife said) and the story came out. Their new LG refrigerator purchased slightly over a year ago had a one year warranty and it failed after 54 weeks. Nobody would stand behind it (hey, your warranty has expired!) and they had to buy a new one. The irony is that my brother is a HVAC/electrician man with 50 years experience, but a year ago his wife purchased this without his help. I wonder if she asked for his buying help this time. Or at least got one with a better warranty. 😎
Moral of the story: Check the warranty on your high ticket appliances before you buy them.
My SIL had the exact same issue with the same brand and within the same time frame as your Brother.
Also bought from a big box store…..
Guess I’ll stick with my good ol’ GE (built in Kentucky) stand alone refrigerator that’s 30+ years old and still runs like a top.

I'm not a member at Costco, and I cannot find the exact screen shots you are providing. What I get on the same item states 2 year warranty. The exact same model numbers sold at other retailers include the manufacturers warranty as 1 year

Costco's customer service states the following:

https://customerservice.costco.com/...arranty coverage, warranty in the second year.

"The specifics of warranty coverage depend on the individual manufacturer, but the two-year length of coverage applies to all manufacturers and all the appliances listed above. The Costco Concierge Services warranty mirrors the manufacturer’s warranty in the second year."

(Bolding is mine)

As an example, the same LG refrigerator with the exact same model number on the LG Website states a 1 year manufacturer warranty...

Ditto the Samsung:
