54 week old LG refrigerator failure

Exactly. Nor you providing anything more than you opinion or the opinion of others and if you want to believe them fine. But you making statements about staying away from LG and Samsung is based on nothing but the experience of one failed unit from the OP who doesnt own the product and others making claim about those units while leaving out the failed stories of the competition.
Nor do you post how the compressor issues were solved. A simple internet search will provide this information, as well as all the free service prided by LG and extended warranty.
Buy whatever one wants, my comment was about sloppy construction in a side by side Whirlpool, if you want incredible fit and finish go with LG.
If you want to live in the past about possible compressor problems that have been solved and recalled dont buy LG take a chance on another brand like Samsung. If look and feel isnt important to you, buy anything on the market.

1. So you say the refridgerator you have is still in production yet in a previous post you make no statement other than this = " My appliances from 9-14 years old have been very durable and reliable"

2. I gave my honest assessment of our new appliances but you keep attacking my position of LG or Samsung vs Whirlpool based on a past compressor recall. Anyway, your claim I a not providing anything more than my opinion but are attacking it based on your opinion. such as "When it comes to appliances, my advice is stay away from LG and Samsung as most of the people I know that have them have More frequent problems. These two companies do not rely on this industry to stay in business."

3. We do not know the posters full story as it is not his refrigerator. More information is needed. Past compressor recall on LG has been taken care of. Even you do not question the OP one what failed after a year to make a new refrigerator unusable knowing full well LG compressors are warrantied for 5 years. So how was a 54 week old unit needing replacement?

I too do not care to comment any further, if my posts help anyone is all I care about, they can pick and chose which ones, like any forum.
No. LG has had serious quality issues with it's refrigerators since they incorporated their linear compressors...that's not a debatable issue, it is a fact. LG has settled class action litigation as a result.
Warranty means zero if parts availability is non-existent.

"Look and feel" of perceived quality are not logical, realistic criteria for ascertaining product reliability.
LG might be acceptable for laundry appliances but history and facts should send most reasonable folks running, not walking away from their refrigerators.

1. The Linear compressor issues have been fixed, addressed and updated. (fact)
2.Look and feel not logical? Well I beg to differ. Some people might like a Nissan Ultima but others prefer a BMW.

Facts, void in many forums. Fact is LG refrigerators blow away almost all brands model by model in Consumer reports ratings, Samsung makes close a second, Whirlpool barely makes a showing. Those are facts. But of course they will be disputed by non facts.
Surveys, which no one in here can provide except me. Fact, Consumer reports surveys of actual owners rate LGs FAR, far above anything from Whirlpool.
But buy what you like, I'll take the BMW over the lessor brands for the same price or less. I wont settle for rough edges, cheap plastics, foam oozing from the edges, cheap looking finishes in the side by models.
I wont get into a trashing Consumer Reports surveys, with nothingness.

We live in todays world, not yesterdays and not from an obscure website and certainly not 20 years of data when its today that counts.
Here is a fact of consumer reports, maybe when comments on a product or made we can post based on how many people are based on a "report" here we are commenting on 1 person in the OP, here consumer reports posts the ninety five thousand responses of consumers that own refrigerators, LG gets a top of the rating of 4 out of on a scale of 5 =

You think quoting out of context helps you win your argument...it does but only in your mind. No one else buys it.
What I stated was, "Look and feel" of perceived quality are not logical, realistic criteria for ascertaining product reliability."
Your Nissan TO BMW comparison was silly but we can let it go.
Perhaps LG has addressed the compressor issues, but it will be a long time before consumers believe it.
Consumer Reports is the shoppers bible for the niaeve.
It lost credibility decades ago...but if your happy with your LG purchase, that's all that should matter.
I had one fail at the two year mark and replaced it with a Whirlpool...have the same one in our beach house...simple side x sides. They work great. One is 5 years. One is 2 years. Both outlived the comparable LG.

Don't know if I'd go Whirlpool with gas ranges. Definitely wouldn't go LG or Samsung. They look el cheapo. But we prefer higher end for ranges anyway. Current in our beach me is a DCS RG-304 probably 25 years old now...replaced one oven door hinge.
Liked the Fisher-Paykel range we had but it too had a stubborn burner that wouldn't always light.

Ok, it’s all good though your post make no sense to me.
To say the look and feel of quality in a product is not logical along with surveys of people who actually use such products as not logical and along with a respectable testing lab as not logical.. well all I can say is this whole conversation between me and you is illogical but the readers can decide for themselves.
Even though you discount buying the very same products because they look “el cheapo”
Now ain’t that funny as that is the exact reason we did not buy Whirlpool, sloppy construction and cheap materials. Hmmmmm …
Furthermore, don’t get your feathers to ruffled, I’m not trying to win anything.

When did LG fix the compressor issue? My parents lost a 3 year old LG over the 4th of July. They didn't even bother to fix it, replaced it with a Whirlpool. Deliver guys said they take out almost brand new LGs all the time.

The compressor went in my brothers 5 year old LG last year, he had it fixed. Took 3 weeks, LG was a headache to deal with and the tech said he does several LG compressors a week.

I have a Frigidaire that was in the house when we bought it in 2015, hasn't skipped a beat.

I cant comment on the "past" so to say. Only the LG we bought this year with no concerns about the compressor. It's a beautiful refrigerator, has a ten year warranty on the compressor and 5 years on the labor. Cant ask for more. Fit and finish are nothing short of awesome.
Here is a pretty good history.
https://kitchenthrill.com/lg-linear-compressor-failures/

"
Since the class action lawsuit filed in 2019, LG has made various improvements, not only to the compressors themselves but to the warranties covering the compressors for customer satisfaction and support.

Once LG realized it had a problem, it began making modifications to fix compressor issues and regain customer loyalty. One of the first things accomplished was to expand the warranty on the compressor.

Initially, the warranty only covered the part for 10 years. Now, the warranty offers coverage for 5 years for both the cost and labor. "
This whole compressor thing was due to a corrosion issue in the tubing, not the design of the compressor. Its all in the link above that says "class action lawsuit"

Being I live in the present and demand quality construction (as well as looks) is why we bought the LG. I could care less about past compressor issue. I certainly respect some who does care but that goes for any product. We buy based on what criterion is important to us.

So the consensus of this thread is that LG refrigerators are junk and Samsung are not much better. Whirlpool products and Frigidaire seem to be the smarter buys. Don't see much about GE.

just threw out 5 year old frigidaire complete junk !

25 year old magic Chef keeps humming away. no repairs needed ever !

My next fridge is going to be a Chinese brand. They seem to do much better than anything else.

Just another anecdote here.
I will not hesitate to buy LG or Samsung TV's or computer monitors, but never ever a major appliance. It made me wonder why so many were on CL or FB marketplace at such a young age. Unfortunately its been this way for several years from my observation.

Good observation. That along with what appliance service techs state is fairly compelling evidence. Far more credible than Consumer Reports.

GE surprisingly fixed whatever issues they had going on in the company and are actually starting to produce quality products again, for the most part.

GE stuff looks hood. Haven't owned their stuff for awhile. People weren't mentioning GE much here. For sure it's got to be better than LG junk.

I'll be honest, prob not my first choice, but I would have no qualms buying GE appliances again nowadays, if their features/look/price was in our wheelhouse.

Spoke recently with a fridge repair tech. He said go with the basics. New units with bells and whistles are dismal in their quality. Said they are constantly changing models and he is never able to get good schooling on the new products. He has to learn as he goes.

One thing I've seen/read too is the ones with the bottom freezers below the french doors are not nearly as good as other designs. Like full french doors or freezer on top.

Yes, maybe, I don’t know when you last looked at GE refrigerators, but we weren’t impressed
By the way, GE is now a Chinese company so maybe that’s why you see an improvement in quality.
