Valvoline R&P Oil Burner Test Results

In the last 10 years I have looked at perhaps 30 used cars. I check them out for myself and when my kids need a new [used] car. I look under the oil cap to see some part of the cams/head. All the cars have been remarkably clean and shiny inside. Invariably when I ask about oil changes they answer they just take it to the local oil change shop every 5.000 miles or so. This would be just bulk oil, synthetic or conventional. So in my experience this cheap oil does a good job at regular intervals. I haven't seen a car with dirty engine internals in 20 years or more. Maybe I'm just lucky.
I think that maintenance is sufficient if the vehicle is driven regularly and not short tripped. Also, if the engine is easy on the oil compared to a turbo charged 4 banger with fuel dilution.

I would rather have a used car that did 6-10k intervals but with a higher quality synthetic, as opposed to one that had 3k intervals with bulk oil. The 6-10k OCI engine in this case would be much cleaner inside.
6K with Mobil 1 or maybe Pennzoil Platinum, 10K is pushing it! JMO

Update #3: 3,200 miles and about 1/4 quart low. ESP 0W30

Wow. Would not have expected that to return so quickly.

Edit: I see it was actually down to 3/4 quart over 5000 miles after 4 rounds on VRP. I thought it had resolved.

Quite the opposite. Especially in Subaru engines which are a rattling mess. Currently have ESP in 8 vehicles I either own or maintain.
Good to hear! Valvoline has been very quiet for me, and I've heard that from others. I have also heard that M1 is a "noisier" oil as well, but I haven't run it.

If this VRP does not do the trick, you can always do an OCI with the King from Valvoline. The Valvoline Premium Blue Restore Generation 1 10W-30.
Good luck finding it, and it was over $100/gal when it was in production. That was like 4 years ago. Gen 2 doesn’t seem to be the stellar performer that Gen 1 was from what I’ve read.

I do have 2 Gallons of the Gen 1 Oil; there is quite a bit of the Gen 1 stuff out there. There might, just might, be more of the Gen 1 oil out there as opposed to the Gen 2 Oil. I called dealers and they had more of the Gen 1 versus the Gen 2, meaning Cummings Dealers. I had other Cummins Dealers that had no clue about the Oil.

I am going to put a number out there that there is probably about 150 to 200 gallons of the Gen 1 stuff out there.

Valvoline EP and R&P were both very quiet for 2-3k miles. Lots of M1 variations with lots of different results reported. ESP seems to be my favorite.

I wouldn’t chase the noise reports, it’s very uncontrolled. I left FS 0W40 for Valvoline EP which “may” have been the start of my problems.

Yep
I've stopped by the local Cummins dealer twice in the last 6 months inquiring about their stock of VPB"Restore". Both times they had the gen1 in stock. $80/gal.
I always keep a gal or two on hand. (y)
