Oil for B58 Ineos Grenadier

Very cool 4WDs, but i reckon you're in for a rude shock if youre intending to use it as a daily on normal roads. This is a proper 4WD, and in actual off road conditions theyre epically good - but would seriously suck as an everyday car on the road!!! Too big, too heavy, too cumbersome, and not even remotely appropriate.
Welcome to 2024. Most new vehicles are big and heavy. Grenadier is 2” narrower and 3” less in length than a 2024 Land Cruiser. Admittedly, it is several hundred pounds heavier than a B58 equipped X5. But, modern suspension can handle that nicely.

No bigger than every other full size SUV or 4x4

Have seen a couple driving past in and around Mayfair and Belgravia, they don’t seem much bigger than a Discovery or Range Rover Sport.

There is no modern suspension here, hence poor on road performance. Both axles are solid. That is why it is so good off road. That is why it can articulate so good.

Just because it has solid axles doesn’t mean there isn’t modern suspension.

Multilink suspension, ZF dampers, Eibach springs and poly bump stopmounts and a panhard rod

Just because it was designed to be robust and easily repaired doesn’t mean it’s not fitted with modern suspension

It’s not fitted with leaf springs is it?

And air suspension would be a stupid idea, it’s made to be robust.

Which is why it comes with a B58 one of the best engines BMW have made in recent times.

I don’t know about North America but they fit a solid BMW six cylinder diesel in some markets

There are no poly bushings. You need flexibility here. What you talking are aftermarket parts. The control arms are steel, as they should be on this vehicle to allow again flexibility. That all adds weight at wrong position. This is NOT BMW. It comes with BMW engines and ZF transmission. Rest is made to be as strong as possible off road. BMW comes with aluminum control arms, aluminum knuckles etc. it is not that simple just to put few bushings here and there and have good suspension. If that was the case, everyone would do it. We would not have poor performance vehicles. The steering in Ineos is as detached from any road feel as possible with wide turn from lock to lock which allows better off road performance, but on road you will be chasing it.
This is vehicle that will be absolute hit used one in 10-15 years as no serious off roader will buy this new and trash it. But when price drop, it will be absolute hit.
And don’t get me wrong, Ineos purposefully made things this way. Ratcliffe wanted this kind of vehicle.

I'm going to guess the depreciation curve will be steeper than an X5. It'll fall into the H1 Hummer category.

Umm. A land cruiser is also a specialised behemoth that’s totally unsuitable for everyday on road use! And the X5 is the same, it’s jsut that that also sucks off road…

Seriously, it’s slow, the steering is slow, it takes a good 50-60 metres to stop from highway speeds. Just all wrong.

I would adore an Inios for a cross country expedition across the Simpson Desert, but it’s frankly ludicrous to use it as everyday transport.

I’ve had it for 6 months and love it. Too big, too heavy, too cumbersome and not even remotely appropriate? Are you one of those people that drives a Prius and pulls into gas stations to lecture those with a suburban?

it’s a fantastic vehicle that’s everything I wanted in one and I don’t plan on ever selling it.

Define modern?

Eibach springs?

ZF dampers?

Separate coils and dampers?

Multi link ?

What are you arguing? I really don’t get it. It sucks on road. It is designed that way. It excels off road. It is designed that way.
You can all find it here, not hard. Google is your friend:

Americans…lol. No, I just drive a normal car that’s fit for purpose. I like them to be efficient and have enjoyable handling. And be safe… But having been to America a few times I do understand you’ve got a bit of a mass insecurity issue going on and all tend to compensate somewhat with your grossly oversized “cars”. I think I even saw a Landcruiser with Lexus badging and road tyres on it which is just bizarre…

An Inios is an epically amazing thing for what it’s designed for - but I imagine Jim Ratcliff is shaking his head in bemusement at Americans using it as a daily too…

Lol, the X5 is extremely popular in the US and Canada. They sell like 85k units a year. They aren't too big for the road. The X5 is only classed as a mid-size SUV.
The fact that a Cayenne looked almost petite on American roads said so many things about what’s wrong with America!

An X5 is NOT mid sized - it’s an obscene obese pos. The fact that American things are even bigger does not make them less ridiculous.

I've driven an X5 through NYC. It is objectively not too big for the road. I hate big cars but I'm just being completely honest. The largest car I've owned personally in the past 20 years is a Mazda 3 and I daily drove an M2 and Z4M. I wish people would stop buying such tall vehicles but the X/Y footprint of most "SUVs" is nothing too crazy.

An X5 is mid sized according to BMW and the international automotive press.

Outside of the artificial reality field around North America these things are huge. Mid size SUVs are RAV4 or something, but even those are a big car.

X5 is popular here too, but driven by a certain demographic that does not have a good reputation!

Sadly we are now getting RHD converted ram/silverado/f150/tundras here and they are a total joke on Australian roads. Most people here jsut laugh at the sad little men perched way up high in their monster trucks :)

Anyhoo, that’s for another day. I am still just shocked anyone would be masochistic enough to want to daily an Inios! So weird.

I don’t know what people think of RAM etc. But I get your point. We would like to drive Australian vehicles, but they don’t exist.
