I would caution anyone considering using an oil extractor: Perform a very careful before and after measurements to determine the ability of the extractor to get sufficient quanity of the used oil out of the engine. This ability is very engine specific and they do not universally work on all.

Depends where you are I guess - 95 is everywhere here in Tasmania and I never had trouble getting it in Canberra either.
If you have a tuned car thats been tuned to the higher octane you obviously use that. For stock cars, use what it was tuned for - ie 95.

I suppose if its enough of a discount and you're getting 98 for 95 prices it probably wont hurt. I have heard of some models that dont like 98 (or more accurately they dont like all the proprietary crap that goes into the 98 products) - the Renault ClioSport 3 is one example - they run like crap and dont idle properly when cold especially on any of the 98, but run like a top on 95. And thats a pretty high performance engine with a high compression that conventional wisdom would suggest would like 98!
It's interesting to see a 10w40 synthetic, sort of an old-school weight for dino oil here in the US (the 10w part).

The winter ambient is much warmer here. There just isn't a reason to go down to OW or 5W, so 10W has remained popular.

All the E46 BMW’s used 0W-40 in Australia and so many other brands using 0W-20. I wouldn’t use 10W-XX in anything even if free. 0W-30 in my 2005 BA Falcon with 350,000 on it.
