Ok, bringing this thread back to life. Here's my driving environment:
1. Mostly city driving in Montreal, most trips are less then 5 - 10 miles.
2. I drive the crv agressively.. I don't beat on it, but I do get high on those 5000 - 5500 rpm vtec shifts a few times a week
3. We do about 1-2 long (300+ miles) trips per month to visit family in other cities.
4. I use regular 87 octane Shell gas, always. Never stray away from Shell, except when I have no choice on road trips.
5. I've used xlm for 6k oci's (since the first oil change) with EaO filter changed out every other oil change. Terry said the EaO works even better when loaded, if I recall correctly, hence my decision to leave the filter in, and because it's a pain to get out.
6. Remember, it's a 5 spd manual, and even highway driving at 110 - 120km/hour keeps a steady 3200-3500 rpm on the engine.
So, now that you have some history, how likely will asm hold up for 1 year / 15k miles? Or would two xlm changes per year be better, or would sticking with gtx/wix be ideal with 3+ changes per year?
If we didn't get -30 winter days, I wouldn't be thinking of syns as much as I do. GTX pour point is around -20.. so it'll turn to wax on those cold days...
so I'll probably run some sort of syn in there over the winter
Oh, and lastly, the great octane debate. Most honda owners say stick with 87 octane as per the manual. Does the 2.4 honda vtec/vtc (9:6 compression ratio) require/benefit from higher octane gas?
Now let's here the multitude of opinions on the subject
