That's baby oil not engine oil. You are a brave man...s

If you are referring to how thin the oil is, you can keep using your 50 weight oil. John Mihovitz uses 0w-20 in his 2000 horsepower 10,000rpm 4.6 DOHC motor and runs 6.5 at 217mph.

What does that have to do with the every day car you drive around?

Have around 4500 miles on the amsoil 0W20 in my '06 ford fusion 3L v6. will be sending in a sample at 10K as well and go from there

So it looks like I use about 3/4qt of makeup oil over the course of 10k miles. Technically 1qt if I were to top it off at the 10k mile mark which I wont' be doing.

Here is the one and only UOA on the oil: ASM not enough miles!!

Give me a few weeks and I'll change the oil in my '07 Toyota Tundra 5.7L V-8. Should have about 3.5 to 4k on the oil, 6 to 6.5k on the engine. Have AMSOIL 0W-20 in it now. Perhaps I'll do a VOA at the same time.

FWIW, I've been getting about 19 MPG out of this nearly 400 HP truck in mixed city/highway driving. Seen up to 22 MPG, which is 2 MPG over sticker highway number.

Probably not even broken in yet...

later,
b

I ended up putting in a 1/2qt so I've added 1qt in 9,500 miles. Instead of sampling at 10k, I might push it to 11 or 12k to get more out of it.

Amsoil 0W-20 has some impressive data sheet spec's. Hope the performance will meet the high expectations that many members have for this oil!

Agree. I haven't even seen a VOA yet on this oil. Anyone?

I'll post a VOA on this oil very soon. I am going to give it a try in my Girlfriends Tiburon.

Almost 7,000 on the oil now. I've only used about .40qt if that.

Buster, does the oil look really dark? I've got about 5500 miles on Amsoil 0w-20 in our '03 Ford Focus. Up until now, this car has used Valvoline 5w-20 with 3000 mile oil changes and the oil never had a noticeable change in color. I changed to the new Amsoil 0w-20 in May, hoping to go about 12000 miles on it before a change. My oil keeps getting darker as the miles pile on. Its got a long way to go before it starts looking like used diesel oil, but its definitely not light in color. I'm thinking about an UOA around 6 or 7 thousand miles to see how its doing. Just curious if anybody else is seeing this 0w-20 get dark on them. Thanks, Bryan

Bryan, looks fairly dark but not much darker than any of the others I've used during the same interval. Don't be alarmed by the color as it's in many cases a "false" alarm.

Thanks. I'll definitely do a UOA in 1500 miles or so and see how things are holding up.

Cheers,
Bryan

Just put new pads/rotors on the Honda.

Tomorrow I plan on changing the oil. 10,600 miles on ASM 0w-20. It's 1/2 qt low now but I wont be adding any so over the course of 10k miles I've added 1qt of make up oil.

So what oil should I run now? I'm trying to see if I can get an oil to reduce my oil consumption. I was thinking of a 10w-30. ATM or M1 would be good. Anyone ever notice the difference in the VI of ATM vs M1? 171 vs 147. Noak of ATM is 5.5%. I'm fairly sure though that the consumption is from fuel dilution.

Why don't you try Amsoil ACD. It's a straight 30 with no VI improvers that meets the cold cranking specs of a 10w30.

VI of ACD is 141. I think M1 is using less VI improver than Amsoil is using in the ATM.

Just might try that.

I like the Amsoil ATM a lot. I have to do more reading on the ACD though... how dos it meet the cold cranking specs of a 10w-30 if it's a straight 30? What additive package does it have (different than ATM?).
