54 week old LG refrigerator failure

[QUOTE="I One thing I've seen/read too is the ones with the bottom freezers below the french doors are not nearly as good as other designs. Like full french doors or freezer on top.
[/QUOTE]
My wife and I will agree with you.
I think because initially people thought French doors look expensive and cool.
But what’s with putting the freezer on the bottom in a drawer that takes up space versus a side-by-side

GE stuff looks hood. Haven't owned their stuff for awhile. People weren't mentioning GE much here. For sure it's got to be better than LG junk.
Yeah, we know China turns out good products better than South Korea?

So many opinions on quality yet most have never even looked or purchased a refrigerator in the last six months so you must get out and check them out.

Korea has been putting out Hyundais and Kias for years that are of very questionable quality.

Some of us own more than one home so our appliance buying experience is 2-3 times greater than most.

GE appliances are Haier...so are Fisher-Paykel. Different manufacturing facilities in different countries though and completely different designs.

Yes, maybe, I don’t know when you last looked at GE refrigerators, but we weren’t impressed
By the way, GE is now a Chinese company so maybe that’s why you see an improvement in quality.
I mean, they ain't gonna be like a Maybach or Bentley but from the reviews and reports, they're good solid appliances again. Not everyone wants a TV screen or window into the fridge. xD

This guy is honest and provides knowledgeable, relevant content re: all major appliances.

His overall take is top freezer and sidexsides tend to be the most reliable.
French door the least because the ice maker is located in the refrigerator. He also states...the more features and electronics, the less reliable the refrigerator.

No they arent like Bentley or Maybach
Perception is marketing in todays world

Agree. Have seen issues with Korean refrigerator and dishwashers.

I run Bosch refrigerator/dishwasher/washer/dryer and have been very pleased.
Bosch is very good value. We have a Bosch dishwasher that we've been quite impressed with, given it runs pretty much every day and it was a very good price, purchased at Costco. We did however have a Bosch washer where the mainboard failed and it was only 3 years old and the cost to replace it was almost the price of a new washer. We replaced it with a Maytag and it's been solid, though it's much more difficult to clean the clean-out on vs the Bosch.

Another option of course is Miele, my parents absolutely love their Miele dishwasher and dad is slowly replacing all their stuff with Miele now. I know @UncleDave is a big fan of Miele.

My parents were long-time Kitchenaid buyers, but having multiple appliance failures (dishwasher x2, range, control board for it twice) on some relatively new appliances has soured them. We of course bought a KitchenAid fridge and stove because of my dad's historical recommendations, lol. We bought the extended warranty for our induction range and were glad we did, because the second repair, which was the induction control board replacement (1st repair was the main control board in the panel, under the regular warranty) was covered by that, and would have been pricey.

My parent's oven (KitchenAid) is unreliable for temperature, so they have to keep an oven thermometer in it now 🤡

Sub-Zero (Wolf) is another option, made in the USA. They make excellent appliances.

After growing up with a bit of everything and outfitting 3 homes my choice when possible is Miele.

My second choice is Bosh.

My 3rd choice is now electrolux, I put a washer dyer pair in my rental and the tenant loves them,
In my house I have their french, double drawer, double ice maker unit and like it a lot.

My Samsung fridge has been problematic It's lost an ice maker and a control board.

Ive watched too much LG issues go down with friends to bother, and

I have a Subzero fridge but also have a GE fridge in the garage.

We had to wait for the Subzero to be made and delivered for our new home and bought a GE garage rated fridge at Lowes. It sits in the garage unplugged. The GE is garage ready rated, has old fashioned mechanical fridge/freezer thermostats and might have a more reliable compressor to handle the high summer heat of a garage. The Subzero fridge is supposed to last 20 years. I could have bought a box truck full of the GE fridges for what the Subzero cost.
Interesting. We just got a basic refrigerator to put in our garage 10 years ago. No issues at all and it gets hot out there. Didn't know they made a "garage ready" unit.

My sister is a customer service rep for a large midwest appliance retailer. We're building a new home and she said DON'T buy an LG fridge. We didn't. And we left the cabinet above the fridge about 8" from the wall to allow better air flow. I hope in 10 years I can boast about how clever I am.

A little over a year ago, I was at my brother’s house and his wife was showing off their new refrigerator. It was purchased from a box store, cost $3K, French door model (side-by-side doors with freezer on the bottom) and had all the bells and whistles. Fast-forward to last week and my wife was visiting their house. My wife commented about the brand new refrigerator that WASN’T the same one that was purchased a year ago. My SIL clenched her jaw and her temple bulged (what my wife said) and the story came out. Their new LG refrigerator purchased slightly over a year ago had a one year warranty and it failed after 54 weeks. Nobody would stand behind it (hey, your warranty has expired!) and they had to buy a new one. The irony is that my brother is a HVAC/electrician man with 50 years experience, but a year ago his wife purchased this without his help. I wonder if she asked for his buying help this time. Or at least got one with a better warranty. 😎
Moral of the story: Check the warranty on your high ticket appliances before you buy them.
Check credit card benefits. If purchased with a credit card, there still may be purchase protection.

What did you buy?

Top three brands by sales are foreign owned. Though Whirlpool (only USA company in the top 5), LG and Samsung are neck and neck. There is a reason.

Well, that’s what you and I would have done. I texted her to appeal to the store where she purchased it. I told her to contact LG headquarters and appeal. I mentioned about the class-action lawsuit that has been happening. She’s got a business degree, is a big-wig in a bank and she knows about extended protections that you get with a credit card purchase.
Instead, I got a text back from her where she thanked me for my concerns and told me to drop it. 🤷‍♂️

This isn't necessarily the case.

My electrolux has two, one in the fridge and one in the freezer.

Some have freezer only ice makers.
This is how ours is in our new to us house. The icemaker and panel are in the freezer door....nothing in the fridge side. However, apparently this model Kenmore has really bad issues with the LED lights/module going out and we just had that happen so that's fun.

After 2 service calls on my fridge this summer, the first being a compressor/condenser replacement and a subsequent follow up where they topped the freon off with 2 more oz, we are currently using my garage fridge, our trailer fridge and our small chest freezer because the turd wont cool below 54 degrees. It started again a few weeks ago with no ice in the door and then the lower freezer started performing poor with a 21 degree coldest temp it could achieve. Of course the tech came out again on Thursday and whatever he did to it finished it off. They are going to throw another compressor combo at it again (2 weeks delay) but I have little faith that it will ever work the way it was designed. To say I am salty about all this is an understatement. We are over 3 weeks through this summer living out of a bar fridge and our trailer. Never again LG, never again.

Dont blame you,
Sadly like all major appliances now, not many options out there.
USA Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, GE (china) Bosch, Fridgidare ... most all others are made by one of these. (im sure there are others but go figure on who is the best, more so, if your looking for something with a quality upscale look) Others dont care.
