Castrol in general doesn't seem to get a lot of love here. Seems to be more expensive down there compared to others. Here, everything is pretty much priced the same for conventionals except for the sales or sell-offs or what ever it is WalMart does.

I'll vote GTX. I was happy with it before and that's what I'm buying now.

Conventional or Synthetic, QuakerState is a good value.

Everyones needs are different, but for my everyday driving and oil change interval, synthetic would not be cost effective, so i stick with the green bottle:)

Pennzoil and QuakerState are similar but not identical, with Pennzoil being their "top tier" PCMO. My car is not top tier and i don't want to give it a boosted ego, so i stick with QS.
 
That's funny. My car has an ego problem it beat my friends tiburon last night so she's feeling proud. Lol I don't race but he's my fiances sisters boyfriend and he's 16 and thinks he's cool and I just couldn't have that.

I know since my car uses oil it doesn't make sense to a lot of people to use synthetic but I want to keeo It awhile and I'm hoping if I treat it good it'll eventually stop using oil. Some people have had luck so I have hope . I'm thinking it can't hurt anything. I want it to get a lot more miles out of it. 500,000 sounds like good number.

If it's leaking oil, then that's usually not terribly expensive to fix. Burning oil can be another problem though.
 
It burns it darn saturns I ended up getting Mobil one hm 10w30 hopefully it works good. I've been told that the Mobil 1 will stop the problem after a while
 
My personal preference is the Big Q. I use the synthetic, the high mileage, and even the green bottle from time to time. Honestly though, and it's been stated before, go with a good, cheap dino, and descent filter, and do regular OCI's, and you won't have any problems.
 
All of those oils mentioned here will give you good results. Really...just keep your OCI's up to date and you can't really go wrong, so whichever is cheapest, which in my area would be Quaker State; or whatever is on sale, which can vary from Valvoline to Pennzoil to Castrol. I buy what's on sale, just look at my sig :-)
 
Also, I might add, perhaps this is a "conventional" thread, but cheapest in the long run will be your Synthetic oils...simply because you can change them at 10k and change your filter every 5k... whereas conventional usually needs to be changed every 3k-4k, of course people will argue about that, but Syn will generally last twice as long if not more between oci's.

For PCMO, excluding Diesel Dino....PYB, VWB, Castrol GTX, Formula Shell, QSAD Green Bottle are all my picks for Dino/conventional.

Since I purchased, all of the above, on clearance with rebates, with the exception of Formula Shell, in Gallon Jugs at Kmart.

IMO....Pick any of the above and it should serve your needs, admirably.

GTX is priced so close to QS's syn its sad. There's also SuperTech's syn thats about a $1.50 more than GTX. Nobody should have to pay the high price Castrol thinks its product is worth. QS for dino and syn would get my vote. Very good product very fair price. Unlike Valvoline and Castrol most days of the week.

Of course people will argue about this logic since it's not as cut and dry as you make it out to be. We had a huge thread about this not too long ago, and despite several requests to provide any verifiable evidence to prove that a) Synthetic is cheaper to run, and b) It can generally (meaning in most driving conditions and most cars) be run twice the OCI as dino, none was provided.

And there is an overwhelming evidence, in our UOA forum for example, that most people that use synthetic oil, change it at 5k intervals anyways. So, while everybody likes to talk about the superiority of synthetics and extended OCIs, few are actually taking advantage of virtues synthetic oil can provide.
 
Get the cheapest name brand.Any of these will work fine and your engine will not know the difference.The most important thing is to change your oil AND filter on a regular basis. If you use synthetic you can go 8000-10000 miles.On dino go 5000-6000.
 
Two things to keep in mind what you just wrote, and Consumer Reports said that there was no difference between the two, and that wear was no different at 3k or 6k in either. Also a reminder this website has people who get a thrill looking in fill holes.

Do you have the same people stating that looking at fill holes once a month helps their engines, as opposed to not looking in them? To me it’s the same as making a blanket statement that synthetic oils can go twice as long as dino. This site is/was dedicated to broadening people's knowledge about oil, not spreading marketing drivel.
