Of course people will argue about this logic since it's not as cut and dry as you make it out to be. We had a huge thread about this not too long ago, and despite several requests to provide any verifiable evidence to prove that a) Synthetic is cheaper to run, and b) It can generally (meaning in most driving conditions and most cars) be run twice the OCI as dino, none was provided.

And there is an overwhelming evidence, in our UOA forum for example, that most people that use synthetic oil, change it at 5k intervals anyways. So, while everybody likes to talk about the superiority of synthetics and extended OCIs, few are actually taking advantage of virtues synthetic oil can provide.

I've noticed too that a lot of the synthetic UOA's are around 5k or so. You would think BITOG'ers would be going longer.

+1 IMO....This is the truth.

Just make sure that the oil you select as a PCMO has the API Starburst on the front and the ILSAC rating with the donut on the back of the bottle.

Any API, ILSAC, PCMO approved for use will get you where you need to go. As far as synthetic oil goes....IMO....it is nice to add a couple of quarts to a gallon of good Dino to get the oil flowing.

But there is no need to run a full sump of it unless you have to tow or live in extreme weather conditions, or you're under warranty and REQUIRED to run a full sump of Synthetic oil.

I have a full sump of synthetic now only because I towed some down to FL and then towed back to Coney Island. IMO...I'd rather have a mix of Dino Diesel blended with some synthetic right now. Dino makes everything run smooth.....
