All of the various premium oils have come down in price to under $30 for 5 quarts on Amazon and at Walmart.

Im looking and wondering what is your favorite...

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum
Mobil 1 EP
Valvoline EP
Castrol Edge EP

I wont include budget friendly SuperTech Advanced and Quaker State UP. Only the higher budget oils. The oil must be sold by Walmart and Amazon for this comparison.

Which ever brand that I can buy at the cheapest price. All of the oils that you listed are in the same category and will serve you well. Even the budget friendly oils that you didn’t want to list will keep most people happy.

Would have to run the Valvoline EP and Castrol Edge EP and get back to you on this one. That would be many many years down the road. I am referring to my Tundra.

If we’re talking about these oils in 0w20 then I would have to give the slightest edge (haha!) to Edge EP. That’s because it’s the only one of those oils with MB 229.71 (although that might not be that big of a deal breaker without it)
This

Im going to rank them in this order... #1. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum #2. Mobil1 EP #3. Valvoline EP

As for Castrol Edge EP I simply could not find much information on it to come to an opinion. I looked on here and Google and couldnt find much information. Maybe someone can post a UOA or a VOA if they can find it. The other thing about Castrol Edge EP is that its expensive. While these 3 now are all under $30 Castrol is still somewhere around $40 for 5 quarts. I looked on Google, Youtube, Edge and Bobs...and could not find much information about this oil. So Castrol I will put it in the not ranked category.

Just my personal opinion...

This is also my reasoning for preferring it over pretty much anything on the shelves. The M139 is one of the engines where 229.71 is specced, so anything with less than 208hp/liter is safe in my opinion

Quaker State Ultimate Protection should not have been excluded. It is Quaker State’s premium motor oil. Asking for people’s favorites likely will get you very little truly useful information. What is your use case and what oil performance characteristics are you particularly interested in?

Valvoline EP HM. my Go to off the shelf other than their R&P line if i can find it. second place is PUP.

most synthetic oils can make up to 10k, highway driving, , Amsoil SS is one oil I would consider on extended drain intervals , there are many oils claiming extended oci Mobil EP,Castrol EP etc that maybe so under extended light driving conditions, checking your owner's manual for sever service may be something to look into ( 5k or 6 month oci ) as most people drive this way, driving habits can come into play on the fuel dilution issue as well its affecting the longtivity of the lubricant , seems to me oil and proper filters is cheap compared to engine sludge, varnish. sticking ring issues. Just stay with a good oil of reputation & OCI. & oil life and engine condition through oil testing is a thought to think about.

The same company makes Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Its possible the same guys designed both Pennzoil and Quaker State.

The difference is the base oil. Quaker State gets to where they need to be with more ingredients whereas Pennzoil has a better base oil.

Basically Quaker State is a tighter budget brand. Pennzoil, Mobil, Valvoline and Castrol are higher budget and better compared.

Extended protection or performance?

Valvoline Extended Protection is not a long drain interval oil like M1 Extended Protection is so we need to compare apples to apples.
Why do people get hung up on this slightly different naming convention? It's just the word their marketing department thought would work best for them, but it's the same category of oil.

Quaker State Ultimate Protection uses vast majority or exclusively GTL base oil. Says so in the safety data sheets. Additive package is different from Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Quaker State say Ultimate Protection "offers up to 20,000 miles or 1 year of protection".
