Amazing how under valve cover pictures of a clean well maintained engine is slowly turning into a thick vs. thin thread.

And 0W20 working as intended. No 30 or 40 required.
Definitely still depends on climate, and engine, forced induction, fuel dilution, etc.Nice to see a strict diet of 20 weight can actually protect the engine. Who knew?
Plus, who's to say it would have been protected more?Plus, who's to say it wouldn't have been protected more?
Of course. Never suggested otherwise.Definitely still depends on climate, and engine, forced induction, fuel dilution, etc.

Where's the need?Plus, who's to say it wouldn't have been protected more?
With the feels…Where's the need?
I was going to say that!Nice!
The one time you used ST, must have cleaned up everything!![]()
Piston skirts, cylinder walls etc. judging the “health” of the engine by the cleanliness of under the valve cover doesn’t make much senseI want to see the pistons.![]()
I'm not the OP, but this question about "ticking" comes up a lot. My understanding is that noisy valves are perhaps too loose...which isn't harmful in itself. But the Too-Tight Valves are QUIET...and those clearances should be loosened. The reason is, too tight means they may not be seating well, allowing combustion gas to squeeze past the seat area...which heats it up. This can fracture the valve edges. So "ticking" isn't a good-enough indicator to give clues to whether clearances should be checked.....were you getting any ticking or other symptoms indicating the need for the valve adjustment? My wife's RDX hasn't had them adjusted yet.
Oh my gosh! Those J35s are so terrible on oil! Your engine is going to explode at 8k intervals!First Valve Adjustment. I have performed almost every service since new.
Intervals have been every 7-8K per the OLM using 0W-20 synthetic. Zero oil consumption. Last two intervals have been HPL 10W20.
Engine is the 3.5L with VCM, engine code is J35Z2.

How do you know what’s been done over the last 20k? It could have not been this pretty prior to HPL. In all likelihood it was pretty clean anyways, but since OP didn’t check before the HPL we can only say “looks great today”.I love this post. The superb recordkeeping has silenced the vocal segment who proclaim that manufacturer recommendations are a conspiracy. I am scratching my head about a switch to ultra-premium oil so late in the game, after you have essentially proven that good oils do the job just fine. (personally, I like Mobil 1 a lot, but find it just slightly too pricy). These J-Series engines are built for starship mileage and best wishes for the next 160k.
Sure we can. The science shows that xw20 kept it clean.Yeah based on the multiple brands used it's pretty fair to say we can't conclude what oil kept it clean or not.
