What would you do to clean this engine?

Hey all it’s holiday season so I thought keeping people occupied with a fresh informative thread would be fine

I just got this 14 Acura RDX with the 3.5 v6 in it. It’s got 120k miles. I was lucky enough to see photos of Glenda W ( fellow bitoger) post some pics of a super clean 2016 rdx valve area

of course my pic isn’t as informative as I didn’t take off the cover but wondering what you would do to clean this engine. As far as I know it runs amazing and I’ve only had for 2-3 weeks. Doesn’t seem to leak or burn any oil. Going to be disabling vCm in next few weeks!

If you want to "do something" to try and make the best of what you have, without an explicit problem to fix, I'd probably try some Valvoline R&P for a few changes. Maybe it cleans up the rings a bit, and I would follow through on disabling the VCM.

I guess nothing. Just saw fellow bitoger engine was sooo clean but I guess since mine is running fine don’t fix what ain’t broken!

I believe that’s probably going to be the probable plan. Cheap and best

FWIW: I use a VCMTuner in my 17 Odyssey. It works great. I only see the ECO light a few times a year, usually when sitting for long periods, or in traffic.

Just bought it. Carfax showed mostly 7,000 mile oci but showed 2 of them that were around 11k miles and one 14000 mile oci

I am hoping the 14000 mile one had a oil change in between that was done at home which makes the most sense as a random 14000 oci doesn’t make sense.

I’ll never know what was used but was mostly serviced at a “pennzoil tire and lube” so I am hoping it at least got pennzoil platinum 0w20 but not sure what those places use

Does it consume any oil? I'd monitor that over next few months. Maybe replace the PCV valve with an OEM one if it's easy to do.

Have you decided on an oil? Mobil 1 EP or Mobil 1 ESP will clean that up over time. My 2016 RDX loves the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30. 5k oci’s 120k on vehicle.

If not leaking or burning it's probably fine. I guess you could run r&p 5w-30 though.

Honestly it's a Honda so it will practically run forever on just about anything. I just changed the oil in Mom's Accord w/ k24 and used R&P 5w20 and an Extraguard ph9688 filter, the oil life meter still had 15% remaining so I figured the orange can would do just fine as it's rated for 10k miles.

If you’d like to clean, try valvoline restore and protect. Otherwise, if it runs good and there is no major consumption, use any API approved lube that meets manufacturer requirements and chug along.
