My 2007 Accord with 666,800 miles (Valvetrain Shots)

Does that delamination make the engine noisy? Will it cause a major failure if left alone? No telling how long it's been like that.

I have a 2007 Accord V6 6MT 4Dr. It has about 120,000 miles on it. Bought new. Getting its second set of tires next week.

I've always run 5W-20 in it. Seeing those cam lobes I may switch to 5W-30 when my 5W-20 supply runs out. But that'll be at least 5 years.

I plan to have the valves adjusted by 500,000 miles;)
I ran 5w30 in my 2010 Odyssey, but the front cam had damage by 220,000 miles. At the time, the cam was backordered. (It is now available, but they doubled the price. Nice - build a poor quality part and gouge people on the replacement)

Anyway, I found a good cam in the junkyard... But the first five engines I looked at all had cam damage.

I want a car like this. Never owned a car for 300k+. I would like to someday for bragging rights. 300k is not a lot for Bitog, but for normies on the road, it is.
I only hit it once, the next two candidates died early. Is a bit of a bragging point, one that few outside of bitog see that way.

I think I remember when you first bought it and posted about it. Did you buy it from a Honda dealer if I remember correctly? Surprised they weren't asking more since the exterior looked so good.
Yep! Bought it from a local Honda dealer. The previous owner bought another Accord (a new 2016) and put on 200k in 4 years on that one as well before he stopped driving it as much (if at all).

I attempted to change the valve cover gasket on my long-leaking high-mileage Accord yesterday, but one of the nuts holding the valve cover on was stripped and would not come off. I decided to take it in to the dealer to have them do it, and adjust the valves while it was there. I asked them to take some photos while the cover was off, and here is what they sent me. In the 95k miles I've owned the car, I haven't adjusted the valves or had the valve cover off. I am not sure if the valves were ever adjusted before. The timing chain is original, as far as I know. The previous owner put 571k miles on the vehicle, bringing it to the dealer about once a month for an oil change (every 5-7k miles). It burned a lot of oil when I got it, and I suspect it may have been run low on oil a few times based on the large wear scars on the cam lobes. It still runs well, but the wear on the lobes tells me it may not last a lot longer. Hopefully I can get a few more years out of it, as the body is too rusty to justify replacing the engine. They may have already been heavily scarred before I got it, as I never run it low on oil... but who knows at this mileage. It does look exceptionally clean otherwise, probably due to the constant inflow of fresh oil every 1000 miles or so. Enjoy!

I would have bought a set of Skunk2 or Crane Camshaft stage 1 and kept on going. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Does anyone remember the Bob member with the million mile 2007 V6 6MT Accord 2dr.

He tore down that engine and it seems to me he showed us photos. I don't remember anything bad about its camshaft (it had a burned too tight exhaust valve).

The dealer quoted me ~$2000. Buying a used engine would probably be more cost effective since I'm not sure how to replace the cams myself. Most K24s tend to burn oil after 100-150k, though. The entire engine could really use a rebuild as it's quite tired with stuck rings and blowby. I'm just gonna send it. It's my winter beater and if it dies, it isn't my only form of transportation. Love the car, but it's showing its age and not really worth dumping a bunch of money into. I'll probably try to look into buying another 06-07 with lower mileage from a non-rust state if this one dies.
Look into the cam job. Super easy on my ohc Mercedes diesels.

I’ll bet you can get some lower mileage clean cams for cheap, not dealer prices. The wild card is what else should be replaced in the lifter system, since something there is rough and causing some bad wear.

It might have helped if someone would have touched these things periodically.

I was told that the clearances on a OHC get tighter as the engine wears.

This is the Legend (SOHC) at ~438k. Only the exhaust side is adjustable. The valve train isn't quiet but the lobes aren't trashed either.
