The New Fram Ultra......

So much for my Fram marketing theory..
Yeah, it wouldn't make sense for the Titanium to stay with the metal screen backing and old media (which would take a separate manufacturing line) unless Advance Auto specifically told Fram that's what they want. My bet is Fram told AA that the filter was "improved" and that the new models will cost AA less money to make.

Unfortunately, people wasted a lot of bandwidth finding the evidence that you could have found yourself.
Like you are wasting my time right now.? I acknowledged on posting 413 that there was a screen. It wasn’t until posting 408 that someone was able to produce a clear picture of the screen. I did actually search Fram Ultra C&P’s on the Bitog Website but none happened to open the filter element revealing a screen. I had done my due diligence and asked if anyone else had the evidence. If that troubles you, too bad.

Wow, all the very knowledgeable Bitog members that have frequented this subforum since the Ultra XG introduced and know the previous version used a metal screen, must have been imagining it was there all this time. Who knew?

Not to mention the multiple links with videos, pics and Fram Corp descriptions linked showing the screen, easily seen with just a little reading of this thread. Or, even a search of dissections of the Ultra here like the one linked. Very difficult to confirm. /s

The 'cheapened' Ultra has now left the Titanium in its' own wire screen backed niche, to be sold at a premium price.

$15 is NOT a premium price for a filter with meshed backed synthetic or mixed media, that is the average price and that could even be considered a low price in comparison to other filters that meet that criteria and are commonly sold at a higher price.

Ok, let’s revisit post #1. Take a look and see if he showed that screen on a original Fram Ultra that was discussed on the video. You can reference how many minutes into the video that occurred at. He said the screen wasn’t there, but honestly I did not notice a pic of an original Ultra showing the presence of one. It wasn’t until the video was re-issued and posted on posting #408 where it showed up. I usually ask for more evidence when someone posts something on the internet. Just me. :)

Sorry no disrespect intended!

Might be "for now" IDK, but as I believe said by at least one other member, don't look for that to continue. Highly unlikely First Brands/Fram is going to continue producing the Titanium using the previous Ultra element construction. As new stock trickles in the change over to new element will be made.

The metal mesh backing never had anything to do with the efficiency. Watch those two YT videos I mentioned earlier and you'll then understand why the old very soft snd flexible media needed the wire backing to prevent oil flow delta-p from deforming it.
And they will load up nicely without deforming.

Just a bit of rank speculation here...

Do you think there's any possibility that Fram will launch a higher priced filter line above the Ultras now that they have cheapened the Ultras? And that this higher priced line would still have the wire backed thick media that everyone is clamoring for?

EG $4
TG$7
UL$10
New $13-$14?

I mean it can't be lost on Fram's corporate owners that other folks that make wire backed synthetic media oil filters are getting $15 or more for them.

/speculation
$15 is in the ballpark of what a Fleetguard Stratapore, and an average Royal Purple filter go for. I'm wondering if First Brands thought they could just slip this major change by everybody, no one would notice nor care? Anyone have any theories on what will happen if the thin synthetic layer gets blinded off, possibly in winter, maybe by someone with a high PSI oil pump/system and thick oil? I'm not really the kind of person that does "guinea pig" with his own, his friends', his family's, or his customer's equipment. I may be a "Chicken Little" on this one, but I'm not risking these new ones for more than 7500 on a clean engine, sorry. I would have gone 30K+ on the old one, it looked that good.

23 pages....and most on the assumption that this new design is worse.....
1 - just because of the lack of the metal mesh, doesn't equal it being weaker
2 - just because of the new media, of which there is more of, does not mean it is weaker
.....need more research - this is getting absurd.

I wonder if some Fram engineers ever visit this forum or have visited this thread? This thread just keeps going on and on...............
