Maybe it's an optical illusion ... the red arrow looks to be the seam and looks glued to me. No shiny metal seen - ??.

Media looks different than TG media to me. The new Ultra outside media sill looks a little fuzzy to me. The TG media doesn't look fuzzy at all.

It’s a layer of synthetic media backed with either the extra guard or tough guard synthetic blend media. Still a stout filter by the looks of it. Wouldn’t hesitate using one

IF it performs as well or better than the old design, then why not? Out of principle? I have read the other thread. Do we have any concrete info other than speculation?

I’m glad I’m reading this. The last oil change I did a couple months ago, I used a Fram Extra Guard cartridge and noticed the filter media looked whiter in color, as opposed to an off-yellow that they used to be. I wonder if they are updated the media in all their filters.

$10 for that filter is fine, Mobil 1 is that much and it’s a worse filtering filter…

Looks like abrasions to me.

Tough Guards still use fiber end caps not metal..Atleast the ones I cut open.
