Another new one without a metal seam crimp, only glued. Maybe part of the new media design is to also eliminate the metal seam crimp (?).

Thanks.

Picture 5.

Metal crimp seam is dead center.
Strange ... looks to have a seam/line down the end/peak of the pleat like it's glued. I blew the photo up and see it now ... the line must be a reflection off the metal on the peak of the pleat.

I'd be interested to know how many more pleats on average there would be in the old version versus the new version.
Media area would be the best measurement. Pleat depth could have changed too.

I really don’t see what all of the fuss is about. It still looks like a quality filter. The wire backing was fine. However, if FRAM can produce a filter that will hold up and not tear, the wire backing won’t be needed. I’ll buy them for my Zero Turn. My vehicles take cartridges.

I would bet good money it's tough guard media... With a synthetic blend backing.

Gold paint with tough guard internals.... All for the premium price.

The oil filter industry is doing what some supplements companies do.They produce awesome products and get people to buy them and then later go "cheaper" on the ingredients.

Good luck to those who use Fram products.

The backing would be the harder blend media, with the full synthetic layer on top of that.

Yeah surely that's why the filter material looks vastly different.

And now magically has far more media in it. More pleats... Yay !

Just like a TG and or a Fram Force filter.

Nothing wrong with a Fram Force or TG. .

I have run a Fram Force filter. And quite likely to be getting them here in the future.

'If" is the key word! I am optimistic...Yet, cautious!

OP Did you try tearing it? I know it's anecdotal, but what are your first impressions? Thanks you!
I think that’s part of what got me off Motorcraft … I could tear them like paper … but not the equivalent Mobil 1 with the thicker blended media … then started running 10k to offset cost same as I have done with Fram XG, RP, and Wix XP oil filters
