The New Fram Ultra......

I'm certain I won't do this, but I do appreciate your ingenuity in not opening the box, breaking the seal to determine if it's the original authentic Ultra or the replacement. Next up, need to post the weight of all the other applications...or at least the most common ones. ;) j/k
I can do one better than the 7317…I have two XG6607(Mazda SkyActiv) here that are screened. Weights are 214g and 219g. All I’ve got since I still have one more Bosch D+ for the Ford in the stash.

I’m optimistic that someone with the time can create a shared database!

For sure the old Fram was never going to tear. But, is there evidence of the TG tearing? I don't think so.
If you watched the video where Whip City Wrencher tore the new media it looked to me to tear pretty easily - link below jumps to that part in the video. Guess there needs to be a comparitive media tearing test video between the TG media and new Utlta media. I wonder if the TG media tears as easily? If there were some real wide pleat spacing (with the metal end caps as mentioned by OVERKILL), hard to say how it would behave when the delta-p hits bypass pressure in cold winter start-up and use.

What part of those statements are you having comprehension problems with?

You can cheapen the construction of something and it still be of excellent quality. BMW famously cheapened the construction of their cooling system components, going to plastic. They were, and still are, amazing cars, but that created some issues, particularly around the E46/E39 vintage. People didn't like the change (for good reason), but it didn't make the cars bad.

For what has to be the 300th time, nobody has claimed that it's not going to be "fine". The Mobil 1 filter has been a cellulose blend/hybrid media for as long as it's been available AFAIK.

I'm not sure what the disconnect is here? 🤷‍♂️ Are you intentionally being obtuse/difficult or are you really having a hard time with this? If the latter, please let me know which bit is problematic for you, specifically, and why you are getting hung-up on it. If the former, I've been as cordial as I can up to this point.
I've replied no more than you. So if I'm being difficult, I meet the same spot on the measuring stick as you.

The Mobil 1 filters I pull out of my Pentastar tear easily, too. But they never tear while in service. I will say, though, that the XG in that application is shockingly strong and hard to tear, due to the polymer mesh backing. But it is clearly overkill. I like it, but still overkill.

well, thats what BITOG is for, otherwise why would you be here reading all this?
Yep-a bunch of pontification by guys that think they know better than the engineers these companies employ. "Keyboard experts".

And yet you have almost 7,000 posts that consist of what, complaining about other members and scoffing about how dare they question anything done by any of the companies discussed on this forum? Are you listening to yourself here? You are on a technical forum complaining about people having a technical discussion. Good grief!

This is why we have so few engineers and tribologists that bother posting on here anymore, attitudes like this. Who in their right mind would want to engage in a technical conversation here when we have folks like yourself so trigger-happy to berate and brow-beat people who dare to participate in them. The gall of them to extend the discourse beyond simply "they know what they are doing".

Truly toxic.
