I’m sure the new media is thinner, even though there are more pleats. My concern is strength-the Pure One has a synthetic/cellulose blend, it has a lot of pleats-but the old Ultra wasn’t tearing, no way. Fact is, if I wanted a “good enough” factory OCI filter, I would just go buy a crap ton of $1-2 Champs off Rock Auto!23 pages....and most on the assumption that this new design is worse.....
1 - just because of the lack of the metal mesh, doesn't equal it being weaker
2 - just because of the new media, of which there is more of, does not mean it is weaker
.....need more research - this is getting absurd.
Will this "tragedy" ever end?
Scary, but true...If I was a bettin man I’d say Fram will bring out a new 30-40k mile filter with metal backing.
Not for some, already they want a “second opinion” of the lab test “efficiency.”Will this "tragedy" ever end?
Really what’s the tragedy when the screen is no longer needed, which reduces the weight and tendency to rattle?
FRAM Ultras, even the "new & improved", aren't as bad as Purolator BOSS filters. Will this "tragedy" ever end?

Don't forget death and taxes. The only thing that remains constant is change
That’s the worst thing about them, the price has been creeping upwards, now $10 at Meijer, as their best attributes are stripped out of them. Anybody get any more comments from Fram on these?i honestly wouldn't mind this new fram ultra as long as they'd drop the price by at least a dollar or two better yet. other than that the tough guard remains the best value but its price is going up.
Yeah, IIRC my XG10575’s cost almost $11 each … but I’ll run them 2x5K as BlueOvalFitter suggestedWally world increased the price of XG9688 by $1.00.
yeah these fram price increases are pissing me off.Wally world increased the price of XG9688 by $1.00.
