Hehe... yup. He gave me the same recommendation. Not saying it's right or wrong, but I do notice the pattern that RLI has become a miracle pill for him. Who knows, maybe it is? I have no way to dispute it... or confirm it.
 
I am pretty sure there are many here afraid to say this but RLI is over-hyped, over-priced and under performing engine oil. Just look at the UOA's.

Does Touchdown Terry tell you guys why RLI would work the best in your vehicle? No disrespect to Johnny, but I really have a gut feeling that Terry DOES have some sort of incentive for people using RLI. Ther's got to be some kickback money somewhere. I cant prove this but its my opinion and I am sticking to it.

I can honestly tell you he does not get a kickback from them. Now, if he does some analysis or formulation work for them, then yes, he gets paid for his services. But he does not get anything if someone he recommends the product to buys it. Terry is a very honest and honorable man.

I know he is.
I know he would not wrong anyone here. Just the past couple times people pay for his service, he always says RLI works the best. I know RLI is not the "BEST" oil out there. For what is best for one may be not so good to someone else. I guess he just realy likes what he sees in RLI.

Although I'm almost certain that Terry has done professional consulting work for RLI, I think his adoration of RLI products (at least the HD oils) comes from the respect he has for the owners, HOBS in general, and the results that he's seeing from UOA's (he sees many more than we do!).

He only recommends what oil he thinks might work best for your situation, or to just stay with your current flavor. But the real benefit that I have received from his services have been corrective measures to improve the operating condition of the vehicle. These are things that a technician won't be able to tell you. It's also what the other analysis services don't offer.

If you think he only recognizes RLI as a "go to" oil as a problem solver, I can tell you that he doesn't always. I know he likes Schaeffers 7000 too. He has recommended PP in the past to me, but my personal experience with PP in two of my vehicles was not the answer I was looking for. Most recently, I emailed a VOA of LE 8130 (Monolec Ultrablend) to him to get his take on what I considered to be marginal detergent/dispersant levels in the oil. Even though he was disappointed that I didn't use his service for the VOA, he told me to not be fooled. There is more to the chemistry in that oil than the amount of metals alone. He said that LE makes an exceptional product and I could use it confidently in my G35. He has no allegiance to LE. In fact, LE recommends Polaris Labs.

Anyways, why did Terry leave the BITOG community? I think what little time he could spend here became too beligerent near the end and it wore him down. There is a saying:

No, I don't think that there is. While Terry is a gun for hire, he would not engage in that level of conduct for the chump change that it could produce. I'd really suggest just ONE test through him. While we all want money ..and lots of it, I think any that he seeks will be on a grander scale than a few nickles from increased sales at RLI. That's on the "getting a bottle in thanks for the holidays" type kickback scale.

I'd term this, and this is speculation/opinion based on observations, as ..at most, a cooperative. Terry got commissioned by RSAudiracerguy (?) to solve a problem. Terry found a cooperating smaller blender willing to custom tweak. Given the cost that Bruce runs without billable time and no marketing or ROI, I'm surprised that they can bring it to market for the price (albeit high) that they do.

Mission accomplished. The customer's problem was solved to his satisfaction.

Now what is going to be one byproduct of the cooperative?

"You may consider (fill in the blank). It's proven to cope with these issues". ..but I can't afford it ... "Understood.. okay ..but it's a great oil."

He currently charges $60.00 for the Oil Analysis & his thorough examination... It's going up to $100.00 as of January 9, so I stocked up on kits to get the old price now...

I think even at $100 it's worth every penny. Try his service, you will see what I mean!

I really feel you of all people should stay away from this subject all together.

I was typing more, but it got ugly real fast, so I'll leave it this ..... yes appearances do count... whether it be wearing your RLI cap and sweater or your Amsoil cap and sweater.
 
Hondaman, lighten up. Pablo, Terry, TooSlick, etc are intellectually honest & keep their business affairs above the table. These "old timers" of BITOG are the backbone as they have proven their integrity. None of them is afraid to talk about an oil that's other than 'theirs'! An open mind they do have.

Do you judge books by their covers?
 
If I could just jump-in. I work for a big US company that franchises its restaurants and I'm fed [censored] all day long from some of my F.O.'s who are really corrupted so I know when someone is feeding me a line or bending the truth and in no way did Terry come off as being this type of person.

Trust me, I have heard it all day in and day out... He's not on this team.
 
WHere did a complimenary thread about Tery's service become a debagte on his character. I think his quality of character speaks for itself and he needs none of us to defend what his words and actions define as a good man.
 
I have a pretty good used male bovine food detector myself. I've used Terry's service a couple of times,read a bazillion of his posts when he was active here and observed how he interacted with others here.

I'm convinced Terry is the straight arrow real deal.

I'm also convinced that unless you have an unusual situation, a problem or UOAs are your hobby that his level of service is totally unnecessary.

I respectfully disagree. Terry is unknown to most of the people that have joined BITOG in the last year and his character was called into question. For those of us who think we know something about his character, speaking up is the right thing to do.
