Hey everyone, I have 2022 Toyota RAV4 LE AWD with A25A-FKS engine, My brother sent this car from Canada about three years ago, based on my request, because I think that cars from Canada and the United States are more durable and have a heavier weight than their counterparts in Dubai. I was using engine oil 0w16, and now the ODO reads 48k kilometers, but my friend in Dubai has the same car with the exact same engine, he is using 5w30 in this car, he told me that this is okay, he show me the owner manual and it gives him wide range of oil viscosities start from 0w16 to 15w40, but my owner manual only specified 0w16 and 0w20, so I am confused, the same car has two different perspectives regarding the engine oil viscosities, so currently I am using 5w30 Amsoil signature series in it, because I don’t believe in water-thin engine oil viscosities, is that okay, am I harming the engine with this viscosity?, Why are there two different recommendations regarding engine oil viscosity? It certainly has nothing to do with engine clearance tolerance or that fairytales, because the Ausi and UAE has different stories about it. Thanks in advance for your valuable replies.

If the manual says you can use 15w-40 then there is no way 5w-30 is too thick. Here in the US we are only told we can use 0w-16 because of our stupid regulations so disregard the first image.

I think 5w-30 is ok and you can keep using that but if you want to keep using amsoil signature the 10w-30 is the one I would use. Better noack and flash point than the 5w-30.

This has been covered many, many times.

The US/Canada markets are governed by regulations meant to maximize fuel economy, and therefore the lower pumping losses and lessor parasitic drag experienced with thin oils help achieve the goal. Elsewhere in the world, where these regulations don't exist, thicker lubes are also found in the "recommended" ranges.

It will be perfectly acceptable to run any lube on that list. In hotter climates, it would be advisable to tend to the thicker side of things, all other things being equal. 5w-30 or 10w-30 would be my suggestion.

Even though this topic has been covered a lot in regards to the Toyota dynamic force engines it's always interesting to see the posts of other countries owner's manuals. I personally feel that 5w30 is probably the most "universal" oil, it can used in both hot and cold climates and provide good engine protection and is readily available. I have three vehicles using 5w30 currently and a fourth one (dynamic force engine 2024 Corolla) that I will be switching over to a 5w30 at the next oil change.

I agree 100%.

Imho, 5w-30 oil is about perfect for the engine in that region. I'd run ACEA C3 or C2 oil with 8k km in between oil changes.
I'm going to Dubai in May for a week to soak in some sun :)
