Wrong oil in my 2022 Toyota Sienna?!

I have a 2022 Toyota Sienna with the 2.5 L four-cylinder. I believe the model number is A25A-FXS. Owners manual specs 0W–16. I inadvertently put in the 0W-8 oil for my Toyota Crown Signia. I was under the impression that they both have the same engine. Are there any differences in seals, tolerances, etc. that I should be worried about running the thinner oil for 5000 miles or so? My wife is kind of freaking out, so I would like advice on whether or not I can wait to replace the oil– to ease my mind and hers. Thanks!

You are definitely going to have to ask forgiveness from the thickie gods for your low HTHS sins. You will then need to use 20w-50 for the next 3 oil changes as an act of repentance. /sarcasm

Questions:
1) how’s it running? Is it consuming oil?
2) during those 5,000 miles on 0w-8, what was the typical usage of the vehicle? Short trips? Long highway trips loaded down with people and luggage, pulling a trailer, at altitude, up a 6% grade?
3) how many miles does the vehicle have on it?
4) have you drained the 0w-8. If not, I’d say grab a sample of it and send it off to anyone except Blackstone for a used oil analysis…just because I’m curious.

I'd probably add a higher viscosity oil sooner as to later, or change it all together. Are you saying its got 5k on the OCI already? Dump it and change it... long enough.

If it sounds alright you probably did not do any long term damage. I'd imagine some of these engines that are spec'd 0W-8 are back-specced to it where as they initially came out on something thicker.

Might be geniune question?

Me being me, I would replace it with the correct grade. But topping it off with 30 grade also sounds good

If wife is freaking out, add something thicker or change oil.
Make sure she sees it.

What are your driving conditions ?
Which exact oil ?
Toyota recommends 0W8 vs 0W16 in different vehicles having that exact same engine.
Some Siennas have been seen to have high incidence of fuel dilution.

Is this a use 16 - but, can use 20 until you find 16?
If so that’s the answer - did not say use 8 until you get 16

Your wife has nothing to worry about. Technically toyota back spec'd the A25A-FXS to use 0w-8 recently and I don't believe they did anything to it other than validate it so i'd leave it in there and for no more than 5k miles. If you want a great but thin oil use Mobil 1 ESP 0w-20. The A25A can run everything from 0w-16 (now 0w-8 as of recently) to 15w-40 in countries where they don't have stupid bean counter regulations

Engine aside - what else is said in THAT vehicle’s owners manual?

I'd drain it and fill it with the same brand of oil in 0w-16. .02

Drain it. Not much cost and time for piece of mind.

If anything goes wrong, no matter how far down the road, that could be even remotely attributed to an oil related issue you will be second guessing yourself and your wife will be giving you the "I told you so" look.

As edyvw says; keep wife person happy and alleviate her anxiety.
If you haven't put much, if any, miles on the oil, drain it in a clean pan and rebottle it for Crown Signia.
Refill the Sienna with manual recommended 0W-16 or 0W-20 and carry on.
Addressing wife person's worries is more important than the cost of the oil.
