Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

Who is Dave? What post?

Dave is Daves Auto center on you tube, there was a link to a video about the SRT10 motor.

Mr Subaru - i think it was - basically tore him apart on one of the subaru videos.

Still interested in technical differences in the M1 0/40 versions.

I ask because a friend who shoots at my local gun club, drives a beautiful 2005 Ram SRT-10 with the V-10 Viper engine in it. The engine went south due to a failed rocker arm at around 150K miles.

He had the vehicle shipped to Dave's Auto Center in Utah for a complete rebuild. They mentioned to him to switch to Motul oil with more viscosity, instead of the Mobil 1 0W-40 he was using.

It cost him around $30K for all of the work you see being done here. Parts for this engine are getting extremely difficult to locate. And they are very expensive when you do find them.

And he paid those guys $30k?

Sounds scandalous!

When GM switched the factory fill on the Corvette from 5w30 to 0w40 you should have seen the reaction from all of the old dudes who incorrectly thought that they were getting thinner oil now. They almost fell out of their jean shorts and New Balance shoes! 😆
And what is wrong with New Balance shoes?

The dodge v10 was never a long lived engine anyway, in the truck or viper,.....bot known to be all that reliable i doubt that the 0w40 is what killed the thing..

remember, dave recently recommended to: in freezing temps, in a new diesel, start it and drive, no warm ups!

I don't know if he's paid them yet. I do know he hasn't gotten the truck back as of a week ago. I'll see him this Saturday.
When someone says to use Motul over Mobil1 0W40 bcs. viscosity, I would be afraid to drive next to their shop, let alone give them $30k.

Because idling these new, choked up diesels, that regurgitate their own exhaust, is about the worst thing you can possibly do for them..... Warm or cold. He gets dozens of diesels in with carbon packed cats and EGR systems that cost thousands to fix. Too much idling is almost always the reason why.

The best thing for ANY engine in cold weather, is to start it, let it run long enough to build up sufficient oil pressure, (a minute or so), and start driving slowly. The engine will warm up faster, and bring the cats up to temperature quicker.

And it will greatly cut down on fuel dilution of the oil. They tend to carbon up enough in hot weather. Idling them in cold weather is an expensive lesson that doesn't have to be learned.

For about the fourth time, no one is saying it did. The engine had 150,000 miles on it before it went down. That's a good long life for that engine. They were simply telling him when he gets it back, to use a slightly higher viscosity oil that would offer a bit better protection.

25-50% PAO
25-50% GTL
Bit of other base stocks.

What a cocktail?

I have both M1 Euro SN and SP in the garage. I am going to mix some outside and make sure it won't catch on fire! :alien: Also have bunch of M1 EP 10W-30 and may mix that in for the ignition! Lol

I see, calm down my friend. I was just commenting on the OP.

Sound like a bunch of money for an engine, and these guy seem like they over exaggerate everything. every engine they do is 30k it seems. 30k to me is a new var, but the srt10 ram is kind of special

Your friend got 150k, using "junk" oil. now with this balanced and line honed expert build, he now should get 300k using the same oil i would think. who knows. good luck to him.

did they wakeup anymore ponies?
