Q: About today's Mobil 1 0W-40 line up

From the other threads and videos by Lake Speed Jr., is it safe to say the following regarding today's M1 0W-40 formulation:

Previous 0W-40 ESP is now the 0W-40 Super Car
Previous 0W-40 FS is now the 0W-40 ESP
Today's 0W-40 FS is a new formulation. It is now Group 3 base oil and does not contain PAO or Ester.
Today's 0W-40 C40 GT is completely new formulation by Mobil and has no predecessor.

There was different versions of 0w40 ESP too. I once purchased some finding out it was the 'X3' version which didn't carry Porsche C40 approval.

No, not even close. Old FS is gone. ESP is and can never be full saps.

Today's 0W-40 FS is a new formulation. It is now Group 3 base oil and does not contain PAO or Ester.
No, it contains a decent amount of PAO still.

Today's 0W-40 C40 GT is completely new formulation by Mobil and has no predecessor.
No, it’s nearly identical to ESP X3.

I heard that today's Mobil 1 is nowhere near "as good" as when it was first introduced? Any truth to that rumor?
Seems like that could be relative to the competition. When it was first introduced, it could've been one of the best with little competition. Now with a flooded market, their offering could be the same but not as great due to solid offerings from competition. If that makes sense.
 
I ask because a friend who shoots at my local gun club, drives a beautiful 2005 Ram SRT-10 with the V-10 Viper engine in it. The engine went south due to a failed rocker arm at around 150K miles.

He had the vehicle shipped to Dave's Auto Center in Utah for a complete rebuild. They mentioned to him to switch to Motul oil with more viscosity, instead of the Mobil 1 0W-40 he was using.

It cost him around $30K for all of the work you see being done here. Parts for this engine are getting extremely difficult to locate. And they are very expensive when you do find them.

I can’t tell you scientifically which Mobil 1 formula is/was the best. But the Tri Syn formula produced the cleanest high mileage engines I’ve ever seen. Dr. Rudnick who helped design Try Syn now works with HPL using a PAO/Ester/AN formula.

Really now. So the cause of the failure was that the Mobil 1 0W-40 had too little "viscosity" but a different brand will save the engine?

Whatever next.

It’s my opinion that vanilla M1 is not as good as it used to be, but that’s only because they put more effort (better base oils and better approvals) into their top tier products like EP, ESP, Euro, Supercar, etc) And since it’s not a big jump in price to go from vanilla to ESP, it’s well worth it
I personally would never run vanilla M1 again but I think ESP is one of the best values on the market right now and quite possibly the best off the shelf oil you can buy. I have been using it in my 2018 Corvette since the second oil change and I’m going to switch my Civic to it this year (when I’m done with VRP)
 
I can't count how many times I've read posts about not running "zero weight" oils b/c they are too thin online. So funny.
When GM switched the factory fill on the Corvette from 5w30 to 0w40 you should have seen the reaction from all of the old dudes who incorrectly thought that they were getting thinner oil now. They almost fell out of their jean shorts and New Balance shoes! 😆
