New Mobil 1 C40 GT 0W-40

The C40 GT has only been made because of the improved wear protection of the dlc coating.
Didn't your xom expert tell them that? 😬

I doubt it. You know absolutely nothing. It may be DLC related but you have it backwards if anything. I never asked about this because I’m not a GT car owner.

You don't have a Porsche GT engine, but you still write in a thread about the Porsche C40 GT standard that I should have no idea, interesting. To me, it sounds the other way around, so you have no idea, but I'll leave you in your faith 😎

I think that it is not about the base oil or the additive, I think that this is possible with OFM, organic friction modifiers, these are not visible in the analysis.

That's what people are hoping for, but oil anaylsis looks MEH. I am running Mobil 1 Supercar5w50 instead. :)

Has any new info been uncovered on the C40 GT 0W-40 over the past few months? My Porsche calls for the original C40 0W-40 but I keep wondering if the GT oil has some added secret sauce that could be beneficial in the other high-revving N/A Porsche engines.

Same here, '24 911t w/o GPF. We are coming up on the first oil change by time and I am also intrigued by the GT oil.

Which car do you have?

Aren’t C40 tests more stringent than VW502 tests? Im sure it’s a fine oil.

I wonder why it’s not an A3/B4 though. Unless the same situation above applies to this as well.

Looks like a new updated formula of the Mobil 1 ESP X3, but in same ways a worse oil:

It's interesting, it might be a rebanding of an updated formula the current Mobil 1 ESP X3 C40. Both oils are HTHS of 3.8, but as noted the viscocity index of 40 GT is lower at 199 vs 204 for Mobil 1 ESP X3.

Generally, this new 40 GT oil, unless it has a ton of ZDDP additives and moly, on paper does not look impressive or much different than Mobil 1 ESP X3.

It's rare you see a Mobil listing specific brand applications, but at the same time saying it's not approved.

"Mobil 1 C40 GT 0W-40 is not suitable for Porsche vehicles requiring an A40, C20, C30 or C40 approved Mobil 1 engine oils."

Anyone hear anything?

Mobil 1 ESP X3 spec sheet for reference:

Wait, so Mobil 1 has an oil with C40 in the name that does NOT meet C40?

Just because an oil analysis of the element concentrations looks the same, it is not the same oil. The C40 specification is intended exclusively for GT vehicles and includes OFM, which are not all visible in an oil analysis. It is about improved protection of the DLC coatings.

If anyone finds this oil id be curious on the revision number on the back. Espx3 and espx4 both look the same elementally and on FTIR but the revision numbers are different so they are not the same oil in a different label. Id be curious what c40 GT is

t is clear what it is, the application is on the label, there is nothing more to say. If you don't drive a Porsche GT, you don't need this oil. Does it hurt? I am not able to judge this, but I would not have any concerns about the use myself, I just lack the necessity. Mobil 1 has other good oils that have proven themselves over years.
