what about all these lines of cars stuck in traffic ? we see on news in big cities like LA,NY CHICAGO and so on? i see many of them drive their cars in town.

Sure. I just spent most of the day yesterday doing one if better Los Angeles tourist attraction: sitting in traffic.
But, to get to traffic you are on fairly fast interstates for city driving, and eventually you get out of traffic and you are at 100-130km/h for some time.
US is very rural, lots of small towns, cities where car is the only means of transportation.
