How can we actually state this as fact? 5k mile intervals on Kirkland may be totally fine and well under the limitations of what it's disperant package can handle. We don't know that Amsoil for twice as long would keep the engine cleaner unless we bench tested two of his engines under his operating conditions side by side and then tore them down.
Any Dexos 1 Gen 3 approved oil (Kirkland included) should keep an engine very clean over a 5,000 mile oil change.

But yet there are also people here on this site who had been doing 5k intervals with various off the shelf oils and then found that once they switched to HPL or VRP that it was doing some cleanup. So not every oil out there is capable of keeping the engine as clean as they could be, even with 5k intervals.

I’ve found in some engines an oil that far exceeds piston cleanliness standards is needed to avoid oil consumption and sticking oil control rings. Much easier to avoid than clean up after the fact, believe me…..

In those vehicles, would a 4,000 mile oil change interval be the best way to prevent the oil control rings from getting stuck.

If the rings were getting stuck with 5k intervals it’s doubtful that reducing the interval by 1000 miles would make much difference. A better oil is the solution to that problem.

Badly designed low tension oil rings are the real problem, but combining that with low quality base oils is a bad combo IMO. Quality oils with high solvency seem to produce pistons well cleaner than industry standards even at longer oci’s. Lower quality oils start leaving behind piston deposits from the start and I’m not sure shorter oci’s will prevent the inevitable. 5k oci’s didn’t work for me. Now if R&P works as claimed it’s a game changer because of the cost vs boutique oils. Only time will tell….I’m testing those claims now.

Would a GTL, PAO, or Ester based oil excel at keeping piston rings clean instead of just using a regular group III synthetic?

It's still misleading to say, "The engine will stay cleaner inside with Amsoil" at longer intervals as a blanket statement. While we've had members find indications of additional cleaning with HPL, we've also had members that have run nothing but regular old Castrol GTX for years on end, change the valve cover gasket, and reveal a top-end in fantastic condition. Depends on the engine and operating conditions.

PP wasn’t on rollback this time what a shame, had to use the peasant grade - Bronco Sport tommorrow. I went a little longer than I wanted to on but cars but I’m sure the oil is still good enough for govt work

Out/In: Pennzoil Platinum 0W20 / YZZN1 Filter
Off: Factory Lug Nuts
On: White Knight Chrome Plated Lug Nut 12 mm x 1.50 Lug nuts NEA 153074

Took advantage of the sunshine and warmer temp. Preemptively replaced all the factory two piece lug nuts with single piece. Some of the factory Yokohamas are looking pretty rough. I’ll be picking up some new tires at DT real soon.

It’s not misleading at all. You just don’t want to accept it because it goes against your own opinions.
