Ok i can hear it now but please humor me. 2024 silverado 2500 6.6 gasser. 5w30. I am going to do 5k oil changes, ac delco filter. Mobil 1 advanced or the Mobil 1 extended. Don't tow camper and boat a lot an not heavy just want to take very good care of my truck. I do not care about the couple dollars extra the extended costs. Just want to use the best oil. What say you oil gurus?

It doesn't realistically matter. EP resists oxidation "better" than the regular offering. For 5,000 mile intervals it isn't going to matter. If having the "better" option will be more satisfying to use for you, then just spend extra few bucks per jug. The difference in price at Walmart is like one gallon of gas. Spread the cost of one gallon of gas over those 5,000 miles. Does it make a difference? Not really. So just get EP and be done with it.

With 5000 mile OCI's the difference is a couple dollars.

I used to think that regular “vanilla” M1 was good enough, especially for people doing 5k intervals, and in the past it probably was (especially in the “tri synthetic” era) But now I’m rethinking that when I hear of people that are switching from regular M1 to VRP and finding that it is doing some cleaning, as well as reducing consumption. So it appears that the basic M1 might not be the way to go these days and you might have better results using M1 EP or ESP or any of their higher end offerings that have more stringent approvals. Just having dexos1 approval doesn’t seem to be enough these days.

No secret there! The EP is a better oil than the Advanced.
Good luck with your new truck. My turn is coming in 2027. Wish me luck then too.

If you want the best oil then you should look into HPL, Amsoil and other high/extended performance providers. The best of anything is rarely an off the shelf or generic product.
While I don’t disagree, this is a 24 that would require dexos. Torco or Schaeffers comes into play though.

I use Mobil1 EP and EP filters in all my cars, always have. Hundreds of thousands of miles with not one engine mishap.

HPL's No VII PCMOs are Dexos 1 Gen 3 Suitable Replacement
Plus, don't be confused with the wording in the Owners Manual. Many Manuals say Recommended instead of Required.
So HPL spent the money to be dexos approved? Not being a jerk, but they don’t even have the starburst symbol. I’m not saying that it’s not great oil, because it is. But there’s a thread floating around that Mazda refused warranty over a few hundred miles past the OCI at a dealer. The last thing I’d wanna do is challenge GM on a warranty issue because Bitog says it’s good stuff. Buy a dexos oil that shows up on their website, save the receipts and be happy. When the OP can make darn sure there’s no motor issues then use hpl close to end of warranty.

use a oil that has proper certs. SP, and GF-6a & Dexos,gen-3 etc, that you buy retail (while under a warranty) and correct (or close) viscosity, ,though there really good lesser-known oils too use out of warranty.

To further it, during the TriSynthetic era it was good but after the lawsuit all bets were off. Money was king then quality; add in a time where internet was taking over and kids throwing performance parts on cars and then the quality of vehicles kinda went down, GDi got mainstream, sub four quart oil capacity, fuel dilution, longer intervals, etc. Well placed @Patman 👍
