Mobil 1 advanced vs Mobil 1 extended new truck

LSjr tested a group of 5w-20 Mobil 1 oils and that Truck & SUV claim holds up. It also has exceptional oxidation resistance. Along with EP it has alkylated naphthalenes and that’s cool.

He also tested ESP 0w-40 x3 and that had great shear resistance too. Is that true for all the ESP oils, I don’t know, it didn’t have as good oxidation resistance and uses an ester co-base oil.

I thought about using this. It's dexos approved too. Looks like the claims are true and not just marketing.

Thanks. I’m now even more dumb than before I watched this…

Can we please rank oils by additive levels next?
I see what you're saying, the guy doesn't know much about additives. More is not always good, Valvoline and Mobil use different kinds of Moly, mobil's is the much more potent one. But I think here, there's nothing wrong with that cold flow test of his. This truck and suv oil is legit

Long story but I had the finish on the camshaft start flaking off the intake lobe of #2cylinder. 2014 5.3 1500 silverado. I bought new and always used mobil1 0w20. 168k miles. I was very disappointed in this happening after the care I took of the truck. I upgraded to my current 2024 2500 l8t because the truck had original front bearings, original fuel pump. 02 sensors were telling me I needed cats. We travel and I felt it was going to need work soon. Here is the heads from 168k miles. And at 100k I tuned and turned off afm. Used some oil but not a ton. No catch can and the intake valves were not gummed up.

Oh, that's weird, I thought GM used billet camshafts, not SADI (this has happened on some of the HEMI's too, the heat treating isn't done properly and flakes off the lobe), but that's SADI behaviour.

It was flaking off two other lobes but hadn't started to damage itself and the lifter roller enough to make a misfire on those cylinders yet. Truck had 168k when the trouble started. At about 150k I started using mobil1 high mileage. I wonder if that could have done any damage. Guess I'll never know.

Chrysler Pentastar with 76k miles. Unknown oci before I bought it at 1 year old and 30k miles. Since then it's had 5k oci and M1 5w-40 FS Euro. All 6 lobes on this cam and 4 out of 6 on another looked like this. Rollers had the same texture.

Holy Cow. You said unknown OCI, it's too late now, but did you check the CarFax? Someone driving 30k in just one year, I wouldn't expect they'd be home long enough to be changing the oil themselves. From the look of that lobe, I fear it had one or zero in the first 30k.

It is an Amazon fleet cargo van. Ram Promaster 2500 I bought for work.

Yeah, that's a surface hardened SADI cam where the surface hardening has delaminated. Here's an FTI billet stick for comparison:

Ok i can hear it now but please humor me. 2024 silverado 2500 6.6 gasser. 5w30. I am going to do 5k oil changes, ac delco filter. Mobil 1 advanced or the Mobil 1 extended. Don't tow camper and boat a lot an not heavy just want to take very good care of my truck. I do not care about the couple dollars extra the extended costs. Just want to use the best oil. What say you oil gurus?
I wonder if any noticeable differences would emerge after a decade. The most potent additive is called marketingting ting ting , and we all succumb to it.

That’s not the only problem there. For one thing, plastic squeeze bottles don’t represent what happens in an engine. It’s a cool state fair demo but quite irrelevant.

And beyond that the guy is an idiot. Here and in other videos.

Can we at least agree that this looks more stout than the advanced fuel economy 0w 20?
105 Moly almost 1000 Zinc.

Zinc isn't the AW additive, phosphorous is (in the ZDDP ester compound) and phosphorous in AFE, according to Mobil, is supposed to be 760ppm.
Yeah, ZDDP. That left me confused too. Their official number is 830 ppm. Some things are off on this VOA. Vidcosity, Zinc and Moly.
