I have a new 2024 silverado 2500hd with the 6.6 l8t gas engine and allison ten speed. Have used mobil1 in the past along with penzoil platinum and I liked shell rotella gas truck while it was out. Previous truck was 2014 silverado1500 with a 5.3. So the new truck calls for 5w30. I changed the oil at 550 miles with mobil1. Dealer will do one free service at probably 7000-7500 miles. It has almost 2200 on it now. I drag around a bassboat sometimes, whole package is 3000 pounds. My camper loaded to camp is almost 5600 pounds. I use but don't abuse my trucks. Do not drive aggressively and I am about maintenance. Trying to decide what 5w30 oil to use. Usually do 6k oil, filter change and rotate tires. But might do this at 5k this truck. Ac delco oil filters to be used. Old truck was at 168k at trade in and was in running great. So, what say you? Oil brand and how often? I know lots of information but everyone on here seems thorough.

That’s a serious tow unit: motor, transmission, and mirrors !

My 6.2 2021 is still under warranty and I've been using 0/5w-40 for years. My two old trucks get 15w-40 and they have over a half million combined since new and neither engine has had any metal inside replaced aside from only one chain in each as preventative maintenance since I snapped a metal chain in my old ford once but both still run smooth and quiet.

Oil brand doesn't matter when they all have good approvals. You can use regular full syn 5w-30 with a lower hths and it'd be fine if you plan on owning this for only another decade and 160k but many euro oils on the Walmart shelf cost the same if not a bit less than lesser blended oils so it's a no brainer free upgrade in my opinion. Why buy regular m1 5w-30 for $25 when you can get m1 0w-40 for the same $25? Or qs 5w-30 at $23 which is the same price as the better 5w-40.

As for intervals mine suggests around 7-8k which I do since 8 quarts of euro oil in an na v8 sump isn't crazy for it and the gdi contamination is handled well by modern euro oils. Does tend to run cool, the engine thermostat rarely goes above 204f and the trans temps never go beyond 170f but usually hovers around 150.

If you're gonna tow some weight around maybe 5-6k.

I just rolled 4000 miles, I have had the truck 1 year and some change. Did my first oil change with Mobil 1 5W-30 at 2000 miles.
I will mostly likely change the oil yearly as I only put 4000 miles on it a year. Even if I were putting more on it I would still do it every 4000 miles because of the DI. The dealer will not be doing any fluid changes even if they are free.

Check your diffs, mine were both low from the factory.

Check all the items the have a grease fitting, mine were dry or had very little grease in them.

I have a 9000lbs parade float, 8000lbs travel trailer and a 5500lbs boat. 85 percent of the 4000 miles was towing. With the daily which also uses Mobil 1 5W-30 at 5000 mile intervals.

The idea of pulling back OCI to 5k is much more impactful than choosing a new oil brand. You were fine with both the Pennzoil and Mobil 1. If you want to use Castrol, Valvoline, Supertech, Quaker State, you’ll still be fine. My choice for this vehicle would be whatever I could get for $23/5 qts or less. You can go for other filters, too.

Nice P/U any syn type of XW-30 from one of the majors oil bottlers with the proper specs changed a bit sooner than later would be the simple choice. Make sure the air cleaner and related plumbing is sealed and what about the rest of the drive line?

I have to tell for what the dang thing cost...it should have come with grease. :) :D Also I like the red and clearance (chicken) lights.

Also thanks for the kind words for the truck. My old 1500 pulled the camper pretty good especially after my powertrain warranty ended and i bought a tuner and turned off the cylinder deactivation crap. But it worked a little bit. But this 2500 hardly seems like it's even trying lol!

To be honest I was surprised at how well it does. I came out of a 2017 3500HD gasser 6 speed. I do have a 03 LB7 Duramax at home and it is better than that truck too.

I went with Valvoline Extended Protection 5W-30 in my new F-250. Gonna go with CarQuest Premium 85372 Oil Filters. I do 5k mile OCI.

I used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and Amsoil Signature Series 0W-40 in my last truck, a 2015 Ram 2500 6.4L Hemi. Wanted to try something different in this truck.

Good luck, NYH.
