Which Mobil 1 5W-30 oil?

I don't need to use Motorcraft oil and filters to have warranty covered as long as they meet Ford's specs. You're being ridiculous.

NYH.
You are being ridiculous by overthinking what oil to use on your truck and worrying about whether or not it meets warranty requirements. I suggested an oil that is approved by Ford for your engine so you can quit worrying about it.

A month and a half ago (Aug 30th), I choose Valvoline Extend Protection 5W-30. It meets Ford's spec. I'm all set, been for a month and a half, not worrying at all!

Heaven forbid someone shouldn't take your suggestion. Also, posting THAT at 2:42 in the morning is unhinged.

I could care less if anyone takes my suggestion. Quit being an ass. I posted it during the day on Friday so I'm not sure where you get 2:42 in the morning.

I just bought a new 2024 Ford F-250 XL 4x4 with the 6.8L V8 gas engine (A code). I'm going to do my first oil and filter change at 1,000 miles, then again at 5,000 miles and then every 5,000 miles after that.

I was on Mobil 1's website, and they have three different non-high milage 5W-30 oils for it. Should I use the Truck & SUV oil, or does it really matter? I'd like to select an oil and filter brand/type and stick with it every time.

Mobil 1 5W-30 Advanced Full Synthetic Engine Oil.
Mobil 1 5W-30 Truck & SUV Oil.
Mobil 1 5W-30 Extended Performance Oil.

Thanks, NYH1.
M1 truck and SUV if you can get it clearance at Advance Auto Parts

I don’t see M1 Truck & SUV being around for the long haul in the M1 oil line up .

This thread is worth a read

I think the question in the linked post is a great one. The Ford WSS spec requirements list was purchased by a member here and it is seemingly easy to meet. Yet relatively few oils carry it, especially the 0w-30 WSS spec.

I could see an argument that Ford wants to con you into paying $6 qt for a synthetic blend oil by pimping it as the recommended oil, while you can buy an equivalent off brand blend for half that. Motorcraft doesn’t even offer a 0w-30 though, so that theory is a little far fetched, I think.

I have heard it costs ~$5,000,000-$10,000,000 to get a specific oil OEM approved (source: video below). If WSS is also that expensive to acquire, that may explain why oil marketers don’t think it’s worth obtaining, even if an oil is much “better” (stays in grade, sufficient HTHS, appropriate additive package) than what is required.

I wonder if it's the AN that showed up in LSJ's last video of the SUV oil. It's D1G3 approved too.

With the AN that showed up in this video, for the Truck and SUV oil, makes me think it may be a good “sleeper” oil. Under promoted yet over delivers for 10,000 miles. Not to mention its good shear resistance.

I too, managed to buy 2- 5qt jugs of 5W20 at the Advance Auto Parts clearance price for $17 a piece.

Regarding the Ford oil spec : Is there any part of that spec that the latest MB and VW spec’d 5W30 oils would not exceed ? If the MB and VW specs for oil are deemed more stringent than the Ford spec - then M1 5W30 ESP deserves a closer look .
