Mobil 1 advanced vs Mobil 1 extended new truck

most any name brand from Walmart,,,,Pennzoil,Valvoline Royal Purple, Castrol, Quaker State etc. of various flavors, in the viscosity you prefer to use ,( there is much information on this site) . there is no Best oil, the less common brands Amsoil,HPL, Schaeffer's Torco, etc in general can offer more (and better product) of what is maybe needed in your application. your OCI is important with the best filter possible.

I have made the decision to go with the mobil1 ep. Change at 5k miles. Changed last week a few miles shy of 10k miles. Blackstone results coming in the future. In my mind probably but I swear it is quieter and smoother than when it had ac delco oil in it.

5w30 Truck & SUV, claims better shear resistance. My $0.2

Then how about the best off the shelf or generic product?
If you change at 5k or less, there really isn’t a best. Syn blends can compete in this mileage range. When you start going into the 20k territory is when it’s only logical to try a top tier oil. I’ve seen Mobil 1 ep put up a good fight in 20k+ intervals here and elsewhere. I’d never touch boutique oils when we have off the shelf oils that can easily keep up. That’s just my opinion of course

LSjr tested a group of 5w-20 Mobil 1 oils and that Truck & SUV claim holds up. It also has exceptional oxidation resistance. Along with EP it has alkylated naphthalenes and that’s cool.

He also tested ESP 0w-40 x3 and that had great shear resistance too. Is that true for all the ESP oils, I don’t know, it didn’t have as good oxidation resistance and uses an ester co-base oil.

It is not marketing like some claim. Mobil 1 has a big reputation, they will not simply lie. Truck & SUV is legit. It is thinner for its grade but it should not shear so easily. Its 0w20 is 8.2 cst at 100 degrees, for comparison Amsoil SS 0w16 is 8.0. ESP 0w20 is 7.9

Just for the sake of conversation Royal purple 0w-20 is 8.6 @ 100c, hths @ 2.7, tbn @ 8.9. and Cenex Maxtron 0w-20 is 8.7@ 100c, hths @ 2.7 ,,many other oils can easily compare or be even better than Mobil 1,,which is a fine oil of course, your uses may dictate the needs or how faithful you are to whatever brand you want to believe in.

Wow, now some of us are even questioning the quality of "regular" Mobil1? Lol
There’s not a thing wrong with regular Mobil 1, millions upon millions of miles have been run on that oil.

However, with Amazon selling 5 quart jugs of regular and Truck & SUV for $24.97, seems sensible to go with the Truck & SUV.

Regular Mobil 1 0w16 got my van to almost 200,000 miles. Mobil 💪

Vanilla Mobil 1 isn’t going to keep your engine as clean as the higher tier offerings though , such as ESP or EP

Just looking at the number of approvals on vanilla M1 compared to the other versions is a good indicator of the quality

Long story but I had the finish on the camshaft start flaking off the intake lobe of #2cylinder. 2014 5.3 1500 silverado. I bought new and always used mobil1 0w20. 168k miles. I was very disappointed in this happening after the care I took of the truck. I upgraded to my current 2024 2500 l8t because the truck had original front bearings, original fuel pump. 02 sensors were telling me I needed cats. We travel and I felt it was going to need work soon. Here is the heads from 168k miles. And at 100k I tuned and turned off afm. Used some oil but not a ton. No catch can and the intake valves were not gummed up.
