Very goood sir. So Propane is the cheaper/better option
I merely was curious as to the energy density of natural gas (mostly methane, some ethane and other gasses) vs propane. I needed convert to equivalent units, easy to use cubic feet of gasses, just to compare and propane is 2.5 times (x) as energy dense natural gas.
Of course as mentioned above propane is less dense than liquids above it in carbon chain length (gasoline, diesel, fuel oils, etc) makes sense - and my bad joke was:..... hard to grill with fuel oil; AHA says it's bad for the heart
Costs depends on where you live, costs of what energy you have/choose/use. If you live with trees around you on your property for miles, firewood alone could be cheap. Especially if the wife is cutting and chopping. Keeps her in shape and off your back. Heck if I had that ideal arrangement I would spring for a hydraulic splitter.
Natural gas in the pipe to the house can be relatively inexpensive. No gas here, not enough people. But there is a gas pipeline that runs along our mountain. Pretty ironic, IMHO. Oil is is good for some folks, not here.
Electricity is not deadly expensive here yet, but they are working on that. Carbon neutral by 2032. Hmmm......
Anyway, heat pump and propane work good for us. Filling our tank once a year, costs an ouch $600-$700 I'm guessing this time, but year, not a worry. Electric $80-$150 per month and we get AC. I'm sure total that's more than lots of folks, say ~$175/month average year around, I can live with that for a near 3000 ft sq house and my decent size shop.
