We haven't had a real winter in years.

It's been snowing a little every day since Jan 1 this year. Some places had a lot of snow nearby, but just the "normal" snow this winter was a few feet deep.

Last weekend, had a jeep ride. It was a cluster. I was BARELY able to move around in the snow with 35'' tires, lockers and all the rev limiter.

That night, we got an additional 2' of snow. Our house has a metal roof and I try to keep the edges raked good. Well ... it started backing up in a window. I wasn't feeling like getting on the roof so I improvised .. used a pole and jack to Lift up on the ice dam and break it off. There was a LOT of water

I thought that would be the end of it.

Friday morning, woke up to a foot of snow. Snowblowed the driveway quick and then tried to head into work. I should have turned around. I've never seen snow that intense before. I drove right across US 11 (thankfully didn't get hit) because it was snowing so much I couldn't see the stopsign or cross intersection.

Cars were stuck in every gas station / business trying to get off the road. A few cars and snow plows straight up drove off the road from not being able to see. I was running the rumble strips trying to stay on the road. Couldn't see delineator posts or anything. I was getting nervous because the Mercury was starting to push snow up to the bumper. I could feel the floors dragging and it was starting to have issues keeping traction. I didn't let up just left the car in 2nd gear and kept going hoping I'd get out of the band.

The drive home wasn't too bad for the most part. Snow stopped around 2. US11 was a mess because 81 was closed. Took me 2 hours to go 6 miles. Oswego county is flat but even the smallest of hills were giving AWD vehicles trouble. I had some water softener crystals (rock salt) I bought for the ice dam sitting on the back seat - about 200 pounds. One of the hills that people were really having trouble with I ended up throwing them all in the trunk as far back as possible. Actually had the least trouble getting up the hills.

Got into my town and it was nuts! Snowbanks 6' high. My road was just a single lane probably plowed out by one of the neighbors. My better half got the end of the driveway done a bit or me. As soon as I saw the driveway, wasn't sure there the road was, I just held the go pedal to the floor, bounced off the trash cah, and didn't let up until I was firmly in the driveway (and stuck).

Tried to get out Sat. morning to check on my mom's place. She hasn't moved in yet. Couldn't get the F350 out. Took the 4 wheeler and ran around all day on that. We got up on our roof, cleared that off ... blocked the front door ... filled in the area between the house and garage. I hurt my wrist and had to pay big $$$ to get my mom's roof done.

Ordered takeout dinner then realized I had no way to get it, got the truck out and used that to get the food.

Yesterday I had a friend come by and drag the Mercury out. Tried to clear behind it. It's currently NOT stuck but that's subject to change.

Spent all day yesterday (Sunday) clearing the area between the garage and house. Initially I had the auger on the snowblower strapped down and was trying to feed it, but the two stage just doesn't work well like that. The single stage has an old belt and it didn't like that too well :( Everything was so heavy because it decided to sleet, freezing rain, rain, then freezing rain and sleet again.

It's been crazy. Now we're supposed to get a few more FEET!

This is usually the snow they get 20 miles north of me.

I understand the frustration, we have had freezes consistently over the last few years even down in Louisiana. i remember getting an ice storm when i was young was an event . now its common place to get at least one a winter if not two.

I'm a few hundred miles east of you, OP! I was away in Spain for a week and we had a few inches of snow that I couldn't get to and my kids were away for college and sports. Yesterday we had more snow and rain at 28F for a few hours; then 34F and the slush that comes with it. Not hard to imagine the sea of ice my driveway is now! Gutters loaded with ice as well.

I'm done with winter. Please bring on the spring.

I will say this though. In my lifetime I have never seen the river freeze over at Niagara Falls and this year it looks spectacular! 🤩 But the freezing means that it will take longer before the boat tours there begin again and that means there will be a delay in when my walking tours there will begin. I was hoping to start doing those in mid March to early April but unless we get a massive warm up it looks like that could be delayed by a full month 🤔

Growing up on Long Island we always loved snow storms. However they were very few and far between. To us a foot to 20 inches or so was great but even that would only happen once every 5 to 10 years.
Anyway, ever chance we got we would head upstate, my friends and I to ski or just party at a motel. Upstate NY is beautiful. Many people in the USA dont know how much so.

However, I left the state in 2006 after spending most my life there. I haven't been back to visit anyone since 2009 and sadly that was a funeral.

Anyway, I can see how the OP got tired of it this year, but I wouldnt mind being in his area for a week or two, then head back to the almost South in North Carolina.

We haven't had high snow totals for this year but it has been pretty brutally cold. We are in our 3rd section of double digit negative stretches. -14F now and it will be -20F tomorrow morning. Pretty much just head to and from work in this weather. Too miserable to be outside. Very depressing for me.

The desert is beautiful when it snows. Fortunately we normally only get a few inches.
Back in 2002ish we got 18 inches and a neighbor and I thought it would be a good idea to ride quads in it

That turned into a disaster. Only way to move was wide open and both quads overheated. Took 3 hrs to ride 1 mile in that mess.

Last saturday we tried to go rescue a Jeep that was in the woods since January. The only way to move was just wide open. I thankfully didn't have any overheating issues but the hood was steaming and the paint on the floor burnt off it got everything else so hot. Foot to the floor and jamming drive/reverse the whole time. Took 3 hours for us to go about 500 feet on a single trail. Nuts!

We had the inverse: an incredibly light winter and highs near 60 everyday. It's going to make fire season horrendous but it reminded me how much easier life is with dry ground.

Then four days ago we got about 6 heavy inches overnight. 6" is not a huge storm but to go from dry to that was a stark contrast. Of course everyone panics and forgets how to drive. Johnny-come-latelys comment on what a big storm, but it's not. It's Colorado. In February. It snows (usually)

Remind me not to move to central NY! That's a little too much. (A LOT too much.) And the falls frozen...wow, it reminds me also when Hoover Dam had water going over the roadway on top (1983).

My winter whine and gripe regards our bloated deer population. They are eating/decimating everything like I have never seen before. No fear around the buildings.

xx??&&&###&&&&((()))###@@@@ Hope the foul language filter here doesn't figure this out.

I feel better now.

First time I have had to snow blow the driveway 3 times in one day.

Snow piled up on the yard is higher than the roof of my cars now.

Just arrived in Toronto from Ottawa. Only saw 3 trucks in the ditch while driving this morning,

I am getting a snow blower for the tractor for next year. Thought about it last year but on average I don't normally need one. I had to move the snow banks back on the driveway last night and it took a while longer than I liked... We've only had about 3'-3.5' of snow too, so I feel for the folks getting that in a week.
Skiing has been great though! Natural snow and no temps above freezing means almost no eastern ice! And the kids have been learning to sidehill on the snowmobile, so its been worth the extra work of plowing.

Last night my girlfriend went to pick up her kids from her parents house and they live on a private road right on the shore of Lake Ontario that has only one road in and doesn’t get plowed by the city. When she was at the house picking up the kids, a delivery driver came down that street and got stuck in the deep snow (and slush because of the waves off the lake). There was no way to get around it and attempts to get that truck unstuck were unsuccessful. So she was stuck at her parents house until almost 2am, when a tow truck finally arrived and removed the stuck vehicle. So she’s definitely over winter at this point (and to be honest if she had listened to me and stayed home and left the kids there for one more night this would have never happened to her…)

Yeah, I'm about done too. I figure, one more month, then it'll start to feel like spring. Once I can start getting outside again, my winter blues will go away.

WIndy as all get out today. Hard to shovel what snow remains--luckily it was only 4" yesterday, but the gusts are brutal today.

One word for you guys: Snowmobile
The mild Winters of late have prompted many sell off their sleds or let 'em go into deep disrepair.

And what's this "wide open"? You pin the throttle open and the wheels spin frantically and you crawl along?
Seems dopy to me.
