I love the snow but ... Kinda done with it

Nice big houses and no garages? I’d have to have a garage up there.
Indeed. I don't think that I could handle it up here without my garage.

My winter whine and gripe regards our bloated deer population. They are eating/decimating everything like I have never seen before. No fear around the buildings.

xx??&&&###&&&&((()))###@@@@ Hope the foul language filter here doesn't figure this out.

I feel better now.
I've always wondered about the "deterrent" guns that fire rubber bullets or pucks?

Some of this wildlife needs to be afraid of people again. I don't want to harm them, just train them people sting.

Aging people tiring of the snow and cold moving to Florida? ...lemme write that down....might become a trend!

A neighbor 'just had' to go out with the guys on their sleds after a whopping 4" of snow.
The fool was cranking it and the 12v vacuum cleaner headlight was useless.
Dimbo drove into a big rock at what his pals called 60 mph.
Pelvis, leg bones, ribs and more was on the hospital's invoice.

This is a guy with small kids, a construction business and a lot of attitude.

Maybe we need a, "When did you find out you're not as smart as you thought you were?", thread?
Yeah, trail riding on lakes or public trails at night has got to be 10x more dangerous than motorcycles. I've gone trail riding twice and its not for me... Semi-drunk to really drunk guys coming the other way at 50-60-70mph on a 12' wide trail... (I guess I didn't drink enough to make it seem like a good idea?)
Ditch banging and doing some deep snow riding on the property is more fun and a heck of lot safer!

We haven't had a real winter in years.

It's been snowing a little every day since Jan 1 this year. Some places had a lot of snow nearby, but just the "normal" snow this winter was a few feet deep.

Last weekend, had a jeep ride. It was a cluster. I was BARELY able to move around in the snow with 35'' tires, lockers and all the rev limiter.

That night, we got an additional 2' of snow. Our house has a metal roof and I try to keep the edges raked good. Well ... it started backing up in a window. I wasn't feeling like getting on the roof so I improvised .. used a pole and jack to Lift up on the ice dam and break it off. There was a LOT of water

I thought that would be the end of it.

Friday morning, woke up to a foot of snow. Snowblowed the driveway quick and then tried to head into work. I should have turned around. I've never seen snow that intense before. I drove right across US 11 (thankfully didn't get hit) because it was snowing so much I couldn't see the stopsign or cross intersection.

Cars were stuck in every gas station / business trying to get off the road. A few cars and snow plows straight up drove off the road from not being able to see. I was running the rumble strips trying to stay on the road. Couldn't see delineator posts or anything. I was getting nervous because the Mercury was starting to push snow up to the bumper. I could feel the floors dragging and it was starting to have issues keeping traction. I didn't let up just left the car in 2nd gear and kept going hoping I'd get out of the band.

The drive home wasn't too bad for the most part. Snow stopped around 2. US11 was a mess because 81 was closed. Took me 2 hours to go 6 miles. Oswego county is flat but even the smallest of hills were giving AWD vehicles trouble. I had some water softener crystals (rock salt) I bought for the ice dam sitting on the back seat - about 200 pounds. One of the hills that people were really having trouble with I ended up throwing them all in the trunk as far back as possible. Actually had the least trouble getting up the hills.

Got into my town and it was nuts! Snowbanks 6' high. My road was just a single lane probably plowed out by one of the neighbors. My better half got the end of the driveway done a bit or me. As soon as I saw the driveway, wasn't sure there the road was, I just held the go pedal to the floor, bounced off the trash cah, and didn't let up until I was firmly in the driveway (and stuck).

Tried to get out Sat. morning to check on my mom's place. She hasn't moved in yet. Couldn't get the F350 out. Took the 4 wheeler and ran around all day on that. We got up on our roof, cleared that off ... blocked the front door ... filled in the area between the house and garage. I hurt my wrist and had to pay big $$$ to get my mom's roof done.

Ordered takeout dinner then realized I had no way to get it, got the truck out and used that to get the food.

Yesterday I had a friend come by and drag the Mercury out. Tried to clear behind it. It's currently NOT stuck but that's subject to change.

Spent all day yesterday (Sunday) clearing the area between the garage and house. Initially I had the auger on the snowblower strapped down and was trying to feed it, but the two stage just doesn't work well like that. The single stage has an old belt and it didn't like that too well :( Everything was so heavy because it decided to sleet, freezing rain, rain, then freezing rain and sleet again.

It's been crazy. Now we're supposed to get a few more FEET!

This is usually the snow they get 20 miles north of me.
OMG. I really feel for you. So I assume that’s upstate New York? After reading everything you wrote I’m done with it now too.

I wish we would get a decent snow here. We need the moisture. Originally forecasted to have 17" this week but now reduced to 0.

A crowd of over 40,000 waits for the weather report before Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow predicting 6 more weeks of winter during the 139th annual Groundhog Day festivities on Sunday, February 2, 2025 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Groundhog Day is a popular tradition in the United States and Canada

We haven't had too much snow, but more ice this winter. The amount of rock salt they've thrown down this season has been insane. Had totally knackered my less than year old truck.

Monday I saw a few posts on facebook where people had their garage start colapsing. So I got on mine and did 90% of it.

There's now enough snow piled up that it's halfway up the windows in the back of my house. In the front between the garage and house I can walk up on either the garage or the house roof.

There's spots out back where we can just walk over the fence into the back yard and out.

Same here. Chicago suburbs.... If it snows again this season, it's likely to be the last one for the season. And there's nothing in the immediate forecast. At least the bike paths will be dry quickly when it starts to get warmer.

Big snow blower you’ve got there.
I bought the Kubota in 2018 and the salesman asked me if I wanted to buy a snowblower with it. My wife and I were still living in Florida at the time and two years away from retiring to Vermont. I told the salesman that I was going to hold off since I wasn't sure that I would need it.

So we retired in 2020 and a week before Christmas we got 3-1/2 feet of snow in one day! As soon as I got dug out I went down to the Kubota dealer and ordered the $6000 snowblower attachment.:D

Here is a picture of me that my wife took trying to deal with the snow that day with a walk behind blower. You can see that my garage is not even finished yet.

-6 here in KC and every TPMS light is on. We're not used to those with our old cars. She was worried about the BMW but I drove the work Sienna home last night and it was on also so told her not to worry about it. One more day and the temps start to rise to 60 next week!

Why take the Grand Marquis to work when you have the Jeep? I like snow but don’t have to deal with it like you guys do which I’m sure gets tiring.

This winter has been a challenge for us in The Great White North. Usually I run my 358cc 10.5hp 29" Craftsman for most winter cleanups, but we have just been slammed and fired up the old Craftsman 45" 13hp since the first snow squalls and have not looked back all winter. I forget how much we have got this year, but we had back to back 100cm+ dumpings over a four day stretch (3.3ft+ in freedom units) last month and it has not relented.

Haha. Good story. I would have probably have done the same thing.

The Jeep is sitting 20 miles away in the woods. I planned on picking it up on the 10th but we had 2' of snow and I didn't want to tow.

However, it's actually really bad at driving on the road in snow. Automatic lockers front/rear and wide mud tires. It either wants to go straight or spin out while turning - there is no middle ground which makes it super sketchy. Wide mud tires have no grip on anything hard packed and if it hits slush, it just does whatever it wants. It would have been good for the day after the snowstorm when I couldn't get out of my driveway. It's also something that .. uh .. shouldn't be driven on the road. It's in very bad shape

My F-350 is 4x4 but it's so heavily sprung that it gets stuck insanely easy. My dad used to run studded snows on it and would get it stuck in his work parking lot all the time. I can't get it over the ice hump into my driveway without using 4x4 whereas the mercury can go right over it.

Unless ground clearance is the holdup, the Marquis is great in the snow.
