While we have enough yard to blow the snow , lots of townhouses close by do not have enough room beside each others driveway to blow the snow.
Yeah, I'm about done too. I figure, one more month, then it'll start to feel like spring. Once I can start getting outside again, my winter blues will go away.
WIndy as all get out today. Hard to shovel what snow remains--luckily it was only 4" yesterday, but the gusts are brutal today.
One word for you guys: Snowmobile
The mild Winters of late have prompted many sell off their sleds or let 'em go into deep disrepair.
And what's this "wide open"? You pin the throttle open and the wheels spin frantically and you crawl along?
Seems dopy to me.
Last time I found the ditch was around 2003? driving on all seasons, April snowstorm of some sort, dropped 6 inches or whatever, found myself in a tank slapper. I started buying snow tires after that one. For a while I recall putting on snow tires around Thanksgiving and taking off in April, gotta love driving 15k per year on snow tires, those tires did not age out!We have gotten some memorable snowstorms in March ...
Not trying to be pedantic, but that seems like a recipe for disaster, especially for the unpracticed. If you can get up speed then it's just a game of keeping the vehicle and wheels spinning quick enough to stay on top of it all.
You get practiced real quick. Not trying to be pedantic, but that seems like a recipe for disaster, especially for the unpracticed.
Yep. Only way to make it move any at all! Do they even sell snowmobiles in California? LOLOne word for you guys: Snowmobile

This is for trail riding. Damage is expected doing it - mechanical or body. Not trying to be pedantic, but that seems like a recipe for disaster, especially for the unpracticed.
Nice big houses and no garages? I’d have to have a garage up there.Posted this in the "pictures" thread, but it's more appropriate here:

Yeah I was going to say it’s a bad winter when it snows several inches in the Fl panhandle. This place was paralyzed for a couple of days.I really hate snow, mainly because I always had to go to work in it and deal with all the non-drivers that got stuck, wrecked etc. Moved south thinking I'd be good, but we have signs that say "bridge freezes before roadway", so not far enough south. Then I think, well how far south do I need to go? My sister-in-law recently got 7" of snow..............in Pensacola Florida.
Sounds like you need studded snow tires. We haven't had a real winter in years.
It's been snowing a little every day since Jan 1 this year. Some places had a lot of snow nearby, but just the "normal" snow this winter was a few feet deep.
Last weekend, had a jeep ride. It was a cluster. I was BARELY able to move around in the snow with 35'' tires, lockers and all the rev limiter.

That night, we got an additional 2' of snow. Our house has a metal roof and I try to keep the edges raked good. Well ... it started backing up in a window. I wasn't feeling like getting on the roof so I improvised .. used a pole and jack to Lift up on the ice dam and break it off. There was a LOT of water

I thought that would be the end of it.
Friday morning, woke up to a foot of snow. Snowblowed the driveway quick and then tried to head into work. I should have turned around. I've never seen snow that intense before. I drove right across US 11 (thankfully didn't get hit) because it was snowing so much I couldn't see the stopsign or cross intersection.
Cars were stuck in every gas station / business trying to get off the road. A few cars and snow plows straight up drove off the road from not being able to see. I was running the rumble strips trying to stay on the road. Couldn't see delineator posts or anything. I was getting nervous because the Mercury was starting to push snow up to the bumper. I could feel the floors dragging and it was starting to have issues keeping traction. I didn't let up just left the car in 2nd gear and kept going hoping I'd get out of the band.

The drive home wasn't too bad for the most part. Snow stopped around 2. US11 was a mess because 81 was closed. Took me 2 hours to go 6 miles. Oswego county is flat but even the smallest of hills were giving AWD vehicles trouble. I had some water softener crystals (rock salt) I bought for the ice dam sitting on the back seat - about 200 pounds. One of the hills that people were really having trouble with I ended up throwing them all in the trunk as far back as possible. Actually had the least trouble getting up the hills.
Got into my town and it was nuts! Snowbanks 6' high. My road was just a single lane probably plowed out by one of the neighbors. My better half got the end of the driveway done a bit or me. As soon as I saw the driveway, wasn't sure there the road was, I just held the go pedal to the floor, bounced off the trash cah, and didn't let up until I was firmly in the driveway (and stuck).

Tried to get out Sat. morning to check on my mom's place. She hasn't moved in yet. Couldn't get the F350 out. Took the 4 wheeler and ran around all day on that. We got up on our roof, cleared that off ... blocked the front door ... filled in the area between the house and garage. I hurt my wrist and had to pay big $$$ to get my mom's roof done.

Ordered takeout dinner then realized I had no way to get it, got the truck out and used that to get the food.
Yesterday I had a friend come by and drag the Mercury out. Tried to clear behind it. It's currently NOT stuck but that's subject to change.
Spent all day yesterday (Sunday) clearing the area between the garage and house. Initially I had the auger on the snowblower strapped down and was trying to feed it, but the two stage just doesn't work well like that. The single stage has an old belt and it didn't like that too wellEverything was so heavy because it decided to sleet, freezing rain, rain, then freezing rain and sleet again.
It's been crazy. Now we're supposed to get a few more FEET!
This is usually the snow they get 20 miles north of me.
A few of us have "garages" that are really just carriage houses, given the age of the homes. My garage would not comfortably fit either of our vehicles, so it has the lawnmower, ladder...etc in it.Nice big houses and no garages? I’d have to have a garage up there.
