Fast food fail...Church's Chicken

I can sometimes stomach KFC... I've been to some that are more or less a real country buffet, and not frozen fast-food schlock. There's one in SC, and there's one out in the country here. I'm not sure if they're franchises that previously were a mom n pop buffet or what, but the chicken is cooked like a real restaurant and it's all original recipe.

Church's, man... I've been to a few different Church's Chicken in different parts of the country. When I was on the road my team driver would always go in on certain days of the week when they had those insane bazillion pieces of dark meat for a nickel or whatever. They didn't even come in a bucket like KFC- just a bag that was completely dissolved within a few minutes from the grease. It was nasty.

We've got a couple of Popeye's here. They're on par with KFC, not too bad not too good.

Bojangles has decent biscuits, I'll pass on everything else.

The KFC in the little town where I work (for another week and a half!) has a lunch buffet and menu items I can't find at any KFC in Shreveport. They have this great "Triple Crunch Big Sandwich" which is three large strips on a nice, thick bun with some type of flavored mayo. Man, in a meal, with wedges, it's dang good.

around here the KFC is usually greasy, popeyes is usually good, church's is hit or miss.i think it depends on the time of the day you go.
the best chicken i have had from a fast food joint was a local place called chicken delite, there were 2 locations.the owner made his own spice/flour mix, was awesome.but they closed for family reasons(dad was retiring and the kids did not want to be bothered).

No one has mentioned Golden Skillet. In the early 80's they had over 200 stores. We still have a few in this area.

They have fried chicken in Australia?

You'll need to Google Spalding's Fried Chicken.

Down here we've got Yucky Duck (local vernacular for KFC). There are occasional franchises that pop up, make nice chips, and go broke.

Most of the chicken that's sold down here is charcoal (or gas or electric) roasted rather than fried.

Nando's is a portugese split chicken franchise...Never had it, driven past a lot of them.

There's a neat chicken/kebab shop in Bathurst that uses a fish BBQ rack to flat cook chooks over charcoal.

Never been to Church's. The only place I ever saw them when I lived in Chicago was in sketchy low income areas. Looking through the windows you couldn't help but notice a few of the dregs of society loitering around and disinterested employees. That along with empty parking lots kept me away.

Not much for fried chicken. At best, it's OK. At worst, it's just inedible. Those cheap chicken joints are probably the biggest consumers of factory farm raised meat, nothing nice about that. They also love to fry it in questionable oils.

Despite those objections, I will eat broasted chicken at a bar after consuming a handful of pints. (Broasted chicken at bars is popular in rural Wisconsin) That stuff is excellent when done right. Crispy breading, juicy meat, not greasy at all.

Never been to Church's. Popeye's has some of the best rice and beans i've ever had. I had some last month and it looked like the cup was dry of the sauce. Then Bam, the sauce came up like a volcano and flooded the rice and beans. I kid you not, I was tasting that rice and beans for the next 4 hours! Biscuits aren't half bad either..

some people refer to "sketchy low income areas" as "home".

one of my business venture ideas is a combo fried chicken/ribs/liquor/bail bonds/check cashing/rent-a-center store. open a few in detroit and sowf philly, I'd make a mint.

For better or worse, the guy I wrote that used to eat at Church's every week referred to it as "Ghetto KFC".

Seriously! That's essentially all of the successful businesses you see in the hood rolled into one! I always say you know you're in the hood when you see the nice, clean looking, neon signs all over the place check cashing/payday loan store.

I used to live in an uppity/yuppie suburb, those type of places didn't exist.

downtown easton was upset when a dunkin donuts opened up in one of the storefronts 'on the square', prime location. they 'didn't like the colors'. but, they apparently didn't have a problem w/ the pawn shop/check cashing place across the street.
a rite aid closed down in a prime location also; would have been a nice spot for a downtown grocery. instead, a dollar store went in there.
the 'we pay cash for homes' vultures have been circling my neighborhood as well, signs all over the place. I hate that, i take them down when I see them.

The little town next to the forest where I work (for 5 more days!) had the same thing happen here. They had one of the older (non-Super) Wal-Mart stores. Well, since Wal-Mart opened a SuperCenter in two towns both 20 miles away in different directions, they decided the little store had to close. Now instead of a department store, a Dollar General, a drapery maker, and an internet cafe (yeah, in a town of 5k half-illiterate people) operate in the facility.

it doesn't take a whole lot of intelligence to figure out how to surf for p or n.
sounds like Thibodaux (spelling?) down the road from my in-laws. they closed the reg WM, built a super WM right next to it. I guess land is cheaper than redoing an existing bldg.
