Crown Vic!

Bought it today: 2011 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. It's kind of a rare bird: a loaded car with heated mirrors, CD player, power pedals, power seat, & cruise, but WITHOUT the SAP. It also never had a lightbar or pushbar, so the roof and bumper have no holes. It even came with summer (Eagle RS-A, in trunk) and winter (Eagle Ultra Grip, on car) tires.

It has 118,000 miles, was retired from the Carroll County (NH) Sherriff Dept. about 3 weeks ago...it was a deputy's personal car. (They switched the entire fleet to Explorers.)

To-do list: figure out the rear door handles, replace the (removed) ticket light, and have it oiled.

(Actually, the first "to-do" is getting it tagged.)

the rear doors can be simple or hard.. depends on who set the car up..sometimes they cut wires, sometimes they disconnect and ziptie the wires up, sometimes they remove rods.. just have to remove the panel and see what they did to disable it.

I've always loved the Crown Vics. I've owned 3 of them...along with a Grand Marquis and 2 Lincoln Continentals. Never got a police cruiser though.

Street Appearance Package: chrome grille, chrome decklid trim, full wheelcovers, and usually carpet. Basically, it's a police Vic that looks like an LX.

I went through over 40 of various Panther incarnations in my life (29 in taxi and over a dozen in livery), and when it comes to P71, I learned that a lot of rules of thumb are myths. You hunt for that highway, 2.37 gear car with a tag that says "Administrative Pool Supervisor" - and you get it!.. just to be surprised by a beat patrol car, 3.55 gear - horrible mpgs, over 8000 hrs of idle time, with 13 plugs allover her body, with that ugly cut-off line on its roof, but it outlives the White Virgin by a few hundred thousand miles. Why? because it was maintained very well, and this what really counts! Good luck and enjoy your ride

They are gonna hate those Explorers. They can not take anywhere near the abuse a Crown Vic will. Many departments are buying Explorers on price and utility (including mine) but long term there is not going to be a happy ending and already some short term consistent major headaches. Oops!

Chargers have their quirks too but are still a much better choice than those stupid SUV's.

from the door. The rods were shipped in the trunk with the car .

Yeah, usually they don't make it to the auction with them though. So then you have to hunt down the correct parts. I had to get the parts to get the doors working on my 2002 from 3 different dealers because they had all been obsoleted in Fords system. So I had to find the NOS parts.
The other option is of course, junkyard.

Jarlaxle, if you can find out if the parts for the rear door are missing and if they are the same as on my '04 then Ill pull them all out of that and ship them to you for like $60.

Except for the part where you'd freak out other drivers who think you're a cop, it seems like fun to own a P71. The idea of a full sized sedan with rear wheel drive and a V8 seems so... antiquated nowadays.

Freaking out people who think you're a cop is part of the fun! Slowpokes pull over to let you pass, rude drivers drive politely when they see you...

I was driving home in the center lane of the freeway one night when a crazy speeder came screaming up the lane on my right. He got within a car length of me and suddenly slowed waaaaay down and fell back. That's fun!
