It happens all the time around here, on a weekly basis. One just needs to know where to look for announcements. Those of us who plan to bid in order to resell will not reveal our secrets
There is an auction in MA this weekend, that is where I have got the best deals of my lifetime. I can't make it but I will say that the preview list looks like most vehicles are pieces o' junk. My contact in the MSP does not have a role in it, so I do not have any inside info.
I did indeed meet a guy from the midwest on another car forum years ago, who flew out and bought 18 CVPIs at his first MA auction, then kept coming back. He must have purchased close to 150 CVPIs over the course of three or four years. I believe he resold them to taxi fleets. We were good friends until a relative of his crossed someone I know.
Not to get off topic, but I have some pretty interesting stories about the characters I've met when reselling auction cars, and be aware of what you may step into if you decide to do so. There are some downright strange and shady people out there.
