Buy a meal at a fast food pay for tap water

Unfortunately that kind of situation is getting more and more rare in the USA as each day goes by. But I remember as a child in
the 1970s in the mid west right outside of big city chicago, in the west/northwest suburbs Buffalo Grove, Dundee, Wheeling, ect
that while people didn't always know each other (and the populations were not small) there was still a good deal of decency in those places. You do not see this today at all. It is a cultural and generational thing in the USA.
I can guarantee you every retirement community is filled to the brim with Kens and Karen's complaining. The retirement community the lady friend lives in with her dad has people breaking the gate that leads into the community because they're to impatient to put in the code or press the button so they try to quickly slip in behind the person in front of them.

Well speak of the devil - I went to a new to me fish and chips place - definitely nothing fancy, order at counter. 75 cents for water. I still ordered it. I appreciate they listed it, not just tacked it on.

Well - today I went to a BK and took advantage of one of their remaining specials. Any size beverage with at least a $1 purchase. As soon as I got my (empty) cup I went to the fountain to fill up. But when I went for an allowed refill, I thought there was a problem with it. No ice and no beverages worked. When I finally got an employee's attention, she pressed a button behind the counter and said it should be working. Then I went and it was dispensing. But then someone walked to the fountain with a clear (water-only) cup and got a soft drink. Not sure how they're timed. I think when I initially got my cup, the employee activated the fountain.

I'm not sure how it works for water though. Maybe next time I can check and see if the water dispenser is separate from the rest of the fountain.

I'm just remember how people were in those areas during the 70s, and it was all ages, I'm sure there were problems, but no way were things as ugly as they are today. I'm getting older but my memory is excellent.
