XD 0W30 any different?

I used XD 0W30 successfuly for an OCI 3 or 4 years ago but due to proximity of supply (i.e lack of) I did not continue.

I am just curious if any Canadians know if Esso has advertised a changed in this grade's formulation? What is the most recent VOA?

Not sure about VOA but the oil is now SM/CJ. Home Hardware stores are now listing the 0W30 and 0W40 as being carried for $27.99/4L jug so you won't have to try to find a distributor anymore. Isn't Vinegar Hill near Shelburne/Orangeville?

You are right as I just checked Home Hardware online

($26.99 for a 4L jug).

Any idea on how long it has been SM rated? I wonder if a VOA has been done for the SM version.

random question regarding this oil, I have the choice to use this 0w-30 or 0w-30 german castrol (price is almost identical which I can get them for). which would you guys choose and why? I have heard amazing things about esso xd-3 0w-30, and also about 0w-30 german castrol.

I nuse this in a 05 Pontiac Wave and it is some swesome stuff and the cleaning ability is second to none. Gotta love high detergents.

I dropped by a Home Hardware earlier this week and this particular store, as far as I could tell, carried only old stock i.e. none of the SM/CJ formulation.

Is the new SM/CJ oil just as kick ___ as the old formula? AKA a TRUE synthetic?

GC is not for everyone. Never used it myself so I can't really comment.

There IS a VOA of the new SM 0W-40 in the VOA section.

Neat to hear that you can get the 0W-30 grade at HH stores....WM's only carry the 0W-40.

4L XD-3 0W30 retails for $28.99 at Home Hardware. But I also ordered a batch of 0W30 from a Esso distributor and it was $6.09/L

It isnt quite that expensive at HH i.e. $26.99 for a 4L jug.
