ACEA A3/B4 oils still relevant in 2024 for Turbo GDI 'High performance' Engines? - Hyundai ElantraN

In 2018, Kia (Hyundai is the parent company) issued a service bulletin recommending the use of 5w-40 oils in all the turbocharged engines for maximum longevity. Since seeing that bulletin, I began using either Pennzoil, Castrol, or Quaker State Euro Spec oils in my 2017 Hyundai Sonata with the 2.0 TURBO GDI engine. I’ve now got 115,000 miles on it with ZERO issues. Zero oil consumption!
Currently it has the Castrol Euro 5w-40. I do 5,000mi oil changes.
My manual specifies 5w-30 as “preferred”, but a wide range of oil weights are permitted.
I’ve not experienced LSPI since switching from the 5w-30wt oils.
All of the 5-w-40’s to my knowledge have the SP, ACEA A3/B4, and numerous other approval/ratings.
I’ve always exceeded the EPA fuel mileage rating. Typically 33mpg highway and 27-29city. EPA is 29/21. I once “caught” the dealership putting 0W-20 in it after a recall to reprogram the ECU to detect rod knock. I promptly replaced it with a 5w40…
Just saying…. Check your owners manual.

I've been running 0W-40 Euro oil (Castrol Edge) with 4K mile OCI for years now in my tuned Kia Optima (2.0T). No oil consumption but plenty of fuel in the old oil (as reported by my UOA and my nose when changing it). No notable wear either. Since new, my engine has always been this way and why I do a 4K mile OCI (daily driver).
I've noticed that Castrol Edge no longer talks about the "titanium" additive (while it is API SP and ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4 rated). This got me thinking and two oil changes ago I switched to Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0W-40 (SP) oil with no noticeable effects. To save cost, my last oil change I went to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 oil (non-Euro version). Still not sure which of these would be the best for my application but I'm thinking the Euro oils is where I should really stick.

I've also recently seen all the threads on Valvoline R&P but it is not available in 0W-40 (yet). If it were, depending on the specs, I think I'd likely give that a go.

Thoughts on all that?

Sounds like a job for Mobil 1 ESP 0w30. 🤔🤷 It's about as heavy of a 30 weight that you can get, mid SAPS, meets a lot of stringent approvals, and is less than $30 for a 5 quart jug at Walmart.

Just realized that Mobil1 has now both ESP/FS formulations meet SP engine test requirements!
The gap between ESP/FS is narrower than ever.

ESP has better base oil quality while FS now use a lot of GTL and the Ash content is reduced from prior.
ESP has better shear stability compared to FS blends. (atleast 0w-40)

I am still sticking to 5w-30 FS for a bit more ZDDP and Ash and better cleaning ability.
