I own a 99 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS.
It currently has 154,000km
The recommended OCI is every 6,000km
90% highway mileage day-to-day basis for work.
With little short runs on the weekend.

Currently using CarQuest Premium Filter"WIX"

Using Amsoil Synthetic AMO 10W40. Seems the car feels better with this oil.
I tried using Castrol GTX 10W40, and the car felt sluggish.
It was a night and day difference when I switched to Amsoil.

So Am I ok with this Amsoil and Filter?
What OCI would you recommend?

An oil analysis kit was order a week ago, Hopefully I should receive it soon. I would like to see the Amsoil results.

I picked up the car at 138,000km. I have no idea what was used. An Older couple owned it. So I would be safe to say it was Subaru Stocked Oil (5w30)

The day I picked up the car, I dumped the Stock oil and had put in GTX 10w40 during Auto_rx treament. I'm on my 1st oil change with Amsoil.

Reason why I picked 10w40 was due to the mileage on the car. wasn't sure if I was getting blow by. Just to play it safe, I started 10w40. run things a little thicker.

Dude for our weather up here in Canada that oil is too thick, try the 5w30 and extend the OCI to at least 10,000 KM with synthetic otherwise you are just wasting your money. Where did you get Amsoil anyway and how much did it cost.

It was less than 100.00cda

And this oil has a pour point of -48.

Run whatever feels right, or turns up good UOA's. The manufacturer isn't always right or telling the whole truth. My car was spec'd for 5W-30 and they said you could use 5W-40 if you really wanted too, but I just got awesomely low wear numbers with 5w-40 so I'll be sticking with that from now on.

Have you tried a 5-30? I'd try it and see if it burned off any...if not, it would be a better choice....as I believe that is the specified oil for this engine. I love the Subaru engines!

What I'm really concerned about....is oil consumption, hence the 10w40.
I want to avoid Blow-by, like the the plague.

Will Amsoil Extended Life 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil (XLF) or 100% Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil (ASL) be thick enough to resist blow by ?

Looking for more responses

If (AMO) 10W40 synthetic is not a problem then ..ok I'll use it.

But

Will Amsoil Extended Life 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil (XLF) or 100% Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil (ASL) be thick enough to resist blow by ?
