Motor Oil for 2024 Subaru BRZ

That makes sense, they need all of the protection they can get. I've heard in other parts of the world these cars run 30 weight oil, which we have seen with other makes and models, North America is always different.
True. The Japanese manual allows 5W-30 and Euro 0W-30.

Ravenol MTF 3 is single weight 75. It's what I use in my Mk7.5 GTI since 15k mileage. No issues thus far. 80k now

I'm sorry for OT, but I'd love to hear from you about how would you
compare between Rav. MTF3 and your factory fluid (VW G 052 527).
I think every VW 02Q/MQ350 type transmission's Achilles' heel is 2nd
gear in particular when cold. Better with MTF3 or worse?
.

The one thing I liked about 20 weight oils is that they have to be full synthetic , no guessing. With 30 weight oils we have to figure out which ones are proper synthetics and which ones may not be. Certainly the extra viscosity is going to help provide more protection though.
The word synthetic has no meaning in todays world they are all blends of III+, III, GTL, Group IV, V whatever

I came across a supply of Amsoil Signature Series 5w-20 on sale at a local supply store going out of business, I'm wondering if there is any benefit of running 5w-20 over factory 0w-20, if I am only driving the car in 3 seasons, and stored in winter. The Amsoil price looks like a good deal on 5w-20 they have in stock. Does the 5w20 offer more protection from viscosity break-down ? This oil is also SN , not SP rated.

You can absolutely use the 5w20 over 0w20 and it is likely to hold its viscosity slightly better than 0w20 and probably has a lower NOACK value as well. If you haven’t grabbed this oil yet then go there right away and snap it up! It’s great stuff 😎

Thanks Patman, you are right the NOACK value is much lower than 0w-20, so that is good in my books. HTHS is 2.67, and viscosity is 8.8 , not too bad. As you may now Peavey is going out of business and their oil is currently 25% off, and it may go higher as the closing date approaches.

So I went back and picked up the last 6 bottles on the shelf - Amsoil Signature Series 5w-20. I think this will be my go to oil this year. After break in I will run this oil for the entire year up to the car going into storage in November. No winter use.

As responded in another one of your threads, do what pleases you. GL

Well I don't know what pleases me, I know that I have a supply of oil right now to get me through most of the 2025 driving season, so I will use it up.

I do want to weigh my options for the 2nd oil change interval though, hence my other post. Thanks for the replies.
