I can get a great deal on bulk Idemitsu Motor Oil 0W16 which is what my new subaru takes. I've heard that toyota, mazda and Subaru oil are made by Idemitsu and that the "dealer" oils have a high moly content. Just wondering if the ID oils also have a high moly content. Can't seem to find a virgin oil sample. I tried Mobil 0w16 and my engine did not sound happy.

Are you open to a higher grade oil?

I personally run 5w30 in my Outback and it’s much quieter and smoother.

I had looked into the high moly Idemitsu Zepro but it was no longer available.
Valvoline EP has high moly and is available at Wally.

Here is the response I got from Idemitsu in reguards to moly content:

It has 70-80 PPM, which is typical of a trinuclear molybdenum compound.

These are much more effective than older types of moly, which you would expect to see in the 700 range.

Modern molybdenum compounds see diminishing returns past 80, with further increases largely just poisoning emissions equipment.

Please note that actual formulations are trade secrets that even I’m not privy to – based on the PPM I expect this is true, but I do not have access to the actual raw material information.
