Does anyone know the date Toyota Synthetic oil changed it's supplier from Idemitsu to Mobil? I am curious if this was about the time Toyota bought into Mazda. The Genuine Toyota Synthetic has 787ppm of moly. When Toyota used Idemitsu, did they have a high moly, or did Idemitsu's Zepro with moly copy Toyota oil technology.

With the understanding that this is an off-the-cuff answer, are you sure that they did? I know the TGMO sold in the US is presently a Mobil product, but not sure if that's a world-wide thing, or just for us in North America.

The quart bottle sold at the dealer has 787ppm of moly? Or was there an analysis done of the factory fill, that showed 787ppm of moly?
The SM version was Japanese high-moly. The SN version is by Exxon Mobil and for most of the time, it used trinuclear moly (low moly). SN was introduced in October 2010. However, Exxon Mobil also made a high-moly version, such as the sample on PQIA. It's not known whether the current Exxon Mobil SN version is high-moly or low-moly (trinuclear moly). The new Toyota DI engines may discourage Toyota from using high moly.

Toyota didn't buy Mazda, they just formed a partnership to supply Mazda with hydrogen fuel cell systems and Mazda will supply Toyota with Mazda's Skyactive engines. It's been maybe 10 years since Toyota switched suppliers.
As I understand it, Toyota oil from Idemitsu is for the Japan domestic market only. If you buy a vehicle made in Japan it will have the Idemitsu oil in it. In North America most Toyota's are made right here. Mobil has the contract so you will get the Mobil oil.
