I would like to dump the factory oil at 1000 kms on my 2024 Subaru BRZ - about 600 miles. Most of the break-in should be done by then. I would like to go with Amsoil 0w-30, so would it be okay to go with full synthetic at 1000 kms ? I know Subaru expects me to do the first oil change around 6000 miles but it will be done sooner. If not I can put in a different oil if break-in is still going to occur after 1000 kms

It comes with full synthetic from the factory.

just enjoy the vehicle factory fill is a synthetic and why the need for 0W30?

Well Lake Speed JR. suggests dumping the factory fill oil after break-in , normally I would not have thought about it, lol. I'm watching too many youtube videos lately.

The factory oil is 0w-20 but the manual states that 5w-30 can be used if temperatures warrant or a non-synthetic is use, I thought 0w-30 would be an alternative. I'm not opposed to 20 weight oils though, the car is stored in winter though, so I am more concerned with a 3 season oil, not as much for winter use.

There is absolutely no need to change the oil after 600 miles. How long have you had the car? If you don't drive it a lot, change the oil every 6-12 months, depending on driving conditions.

I've had to car for 3 weeks but it is in winter storage. Less than 200 kms on the car right now. It will be a weekend only , garage queen type of car, so one oil change a year just before it goes into winter storage is what I suspect will happen.

If you’re not tracking the car 0W20 is suitable year round. I wouldn’t obsess over YouTube videos or that lakespeed guy. Yearly oil changes would be fine as long as you’re getting the oil up to operating temperature.

Thank you, lol about Lake Speed Jr comment.

With the car not being used in winter I would drive it from April until November, and I would do an oil change just as it goes into winter storage. When I do drive it I would make sure it gets fully warmed up. It is not going to any track at any time.

That's old school thinking. Every Toyota, Honda,gm etc gets 0w20 from the factory... As far as I know all 0w oils are syn.
They make 0w20s that are synthetic blends now.

Sometimes BITOG is amazing to me.

We have a member that thinks Lake Speed Lickity split is gospel.

Another member says ignore everyone telling you not to change oil early, but listen to him and overfill by a quart.

Ah, time for more coffee......
